There is actually some astonishing wisdom in the Bible, and some beautiful poetry.

Unfortunately, this work of history and art and fable has been distorted to "justify" hate among some fanatics and it is a real shame.

I don't take it seriously at all. In fact, if I had to carry one, first I'd buy a copy of Hustler magazine and hide the bible inside, so when I walked down the street I'd look more respectable.

It's certainly show at my workplace. A good 80 percent of my coworkers have one on their desk. Not that they touch them.

So yeah, it's for show.

It's a sensationalized and questionable account of historicity. For most, it's merely an epic fable used to teach morals that have been taken from previous cultures and religions. It's not all that different than your average fairy tale, only the Bible is much longer in length and often more graphic.

there are some scarce jewels there, mostly the confucian teaching or Sermon on the Mount, and the pagan "proverbs"

The Christian religion has had great harm done to words that were meant for spiritual guidance because it's been used too much as a podium to stand on over political issues.
Used like a soap box.

There are some good lessons, but over all it is just a story, "the greatest story ever told" to be exact.

So no I do not take it seriously.

I take the bible seriously because I take the God who wrote it seriously.

Salam

The books are here as a means of guidance and warning and so where the prophets that came. They took a job that none of you will ever be able to do.

The guidance is a mercy and if you don't want it then that is your choice.

In the Old Testament, God the Father was a good father, and was stern. Thus God laid out the law,.. and smited those who spit in God’s face and in the face of God’s chosen people.

Then Jesus ushered in the new covenant like only God could. Jesus handed out the Holy Spirit like water. Thus the 3 foot thick curtain for the Holy of Holies was ripped in half.

Love comes from the soul. For if love came from a hormone, then it would come from with-in like adrenaline.

People think that people imagine the feeling of love. That it’s a trick of the brain.

Yet, love comes from where the people touch you, not from with-in like a hormone. If love were up to the perception of the user, then how come no matter what mood you are in,.. you still feel love. If you hate the person loving you, you may feel grossed out to love,.. but still feel the love. If love were up to the imagination of the user, then you could trick people into thinking inanimate objects are people hugging them.

Now from what is seen here, we see that the soul has an energy that is independent of matter,.. but has side effects in matter. Hence the brain is specifically designed to react to the spiritual energies we emit.

Now what do you say about the people who have felt God’s love? Being in God’s presence charges the soul and body. It’s called the renewing of the Holy Spirit. And this residual effect goes away when people travel down old thought patterns that contradict the perfection that is God.

I'd look to God for the renewal of the spirit. Do you know that good feeling people get when they go to church? Well this good feeling will go away as you travel down old thought patterns that summon worldly feelings, which are contradictory to God.

Jesus said the Kingdom of Heaven is that of a child. Do you know the unconditional love that a child has,.. In that a child will give anyone love that shows them love. People have to learn to protect themselves from this unconditional love, for they will be taken advantage of. In jail it's a common saying that kindness is a weakness. But if you were ever lucky enough to have a child,.. And then you look into this child's eyes and all of the hope you have for that child. That's because the child inspires what you have lost.

The Holy Spirit heals the soul. It's change that starts in the heart first,.. And the mind second. But God doesn't teach us new thoughts. If God were in that business we'd already know it all. So we have to learn how to perfect Holy ways. God just inspires us to do so,.. And gave us the words of Holy Spirit inspires prophets in order to give us direction for the rewiring of our brains.

I think the answer is obvious.
Christians will say that King James is the true bible.
Catholics will say theirs is the complete bible.
Non Christians will say their doctrine is the true one.
Atheists will say it's fairy tales.
Mormons will say it's only part of the gospel and that JS re-translated it.
etc...
Whatever suits you best....
