Even if you don't believe in God, do you think this is okay?
Also, does anyone know if they are allowing the athletes to bring in the koran?

It makes no difference what they think in China. The Bible goes anywhere God wants it to go. I have friends who are missionaries right under their nose and they can do nothing about it.

Hello,

Though greatly kept under mums, China is having problems with some of the Islamic people on her far western provinces.
The athletes concerned about bibles should drop out of the Olympics and make their reasons known. Sacrificing all those years of work and effort will truly show their dedication and belief in the Lord don't you think?

Actually, China is not the only country that doesn't allow bibles. Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Yemen etc do not allow bibles either and especially crosses on necklaces or scapular medals. Most going to these countries are oil workers being payed 6 figures so they tend not to whine about these rules. To his credit the only person who has had the guts to speak up on this is Pope Benedict who told these countries that western Europe tolerates mosques and Korans so hadn't they better get on the band wagon and allow churches bibles etc.

Cheers,

Michael Kelly

Like any non-free nation, the powers that be do not like the idea of anybody bringing in any competing means of social control of the populace, which is why China regulates all their churches as strictly as they do. I would expect they would do this with any religious text. Too bad the cat's already out of the bag.

I don't believe in god, and I don't think this is okay. On the other hand, it's their country and their rules - if you don't want to follow their rules, then don't attempt to enter their country. IMO, China should not have been selected as the site for the Olympic games to begin with.

I can understand to a certain extent if they want to limit the number of Bibles a person brings (which is what I heard; bring only one) because sometimes some Christians believe that they need to save the world, when sometimes the world doesn't want to be saved. People don't like proselytization that much, and that's probably why they banned it, or at least limited it.
Personally I do think it's going a bit too far to ban someone from bringing their own holy book with them, for personal use. But then again, as I heard someone else say, it's their country, it's their rules. I suppose those that don't like it can boycott it. Boycotts have more success than we sometimes think...

Blaming a Bible ban in China on the Muslims is perhaps the dumbest thing we've been blamed for so far...

There is a saying and I don't normally use cleches', however, respect for the rules of others applies to those of other countries as well. When in Rome, do as the Roman's do. Whether we think it is right or not, it is the rules and laws of another country and should be respected. You would expect someone entering your house to observe your rules instead of doing as they please and that same respect should be extended to others where we enter where they live. We have been allowed to enter to compete in the Olympic Games in another country and observance of their laws and rules are the same as if the games were in the US, or anywhere else in the world. Yes, it is ok and more important it should be respected.

I don't credit the Bible as the word of God, but I respect the beliefs of others. Athletes should be allowed to bring a Bible with them anywhere they go.

IF the bible had the word "FICTION" written underneath the words "HOLY BIBLE" then the chinese may be slightly more welcoming to those carrying the self proclaimed holy book

Jesus is afterall - "Fraud of the Age"

The chinese are not "big" on religion. "When in Rome" :-)

It's their country . Nobody is harmed by the rule . Most died-in-the-wool Christians have read the book over and over , why must they have it with them wherever they go ?

I don't care if it is for personal use but if it is for distribution then I don't want them to exploit the Olympic to spread their religious beliefs.
