If is's a revolver, just count the number of chambers in the cylinder. If it is a semi-auto handgun, you will just have to load the magazine to see how many it holds. The same applies to a rifle. If you have an owner's manual for your gun, it will tell you. Another thing that you can do instead of loading it to find out how many rounds it holds is to look up the specs on your particular gun. Most of the gun manufacturers have a web site that you can go to and look up the specs on your gun.

The only true way to tell is to load the gun.

For example, my Remington 870 holds 5 of some shorter loads, and only 4 of others.

Depends on what kind of gun it is. If it's a single shot, it holds one, if it's a bolt action, it can hold several different amounts, and same goes for semi-automatic. You need to be more specific.

First of all, what kind of a "GUN" are you talking about?
It could be anywhere from a musket to an FN p90...
It could vary...
Anywhere from a single shot, to a 100 round capacity C-mag for an AR-15....

Ok... now i get it....
That particular gun holds 14+1 rounds. If you'd want more i do not know if that model is before or after that 10 round pre ban magazine thingy.... Better to consult with your local authorithies first... Try also to contact S&W regarding details on the particular model your interested in...

Good luck!

:-)

Some are singles or doubles, and they're pretty self-evident. Double-action revolvers tend to be swinging-gate types, so you can swing out the cylinder and count the chambers. It isn't much harder to count in a single-action revolver. Others you may just have to stuff 'em in and see, or read the manual.

Depending on whether you are the one pointing it or it is being pointed at you, it's not enough or too many.
