Federal laws prohibit the possession of firearms.

A firearm is a weapon that uses gunpowder to propel a projectile.

A crossbow uses stored momentum, not gunpowder, and is legal. So is a pellet gun powered by air.

These answers are assuming your case is no longer active, and you are not on probation/parole. If you are, your probation officer would have the answer.

MOST STATES SAY ONCE A CONVICTED FELON YOU CANNOT CARRY A FIREARM.

DEPENDING ON THE DEFINITION OF A FIREARM, BY LEGISLATIVE INTENT. A WEAPON OR A GUN. SOME STATES LIKE ILL DEFINES AND THEN DOCUMENTS FOR 68 PAGES DIFFERENT TYPES OF WEAPONS.

OWNING A CROSS BOW WOULD BE A GOOD QUESTION FOR A LAWYER AS I FIND VIRGINIA LAW ALLOWS FOR ANYONE CONVICTED AND RELEASED TO APPEAL UPON DISCHARGE FROM CUSTODY FOR A PERMIT TO CARRY A WEAPON?? 18-2-308.1.1???

from what my p.o told me...no state is allowed to posess any "destructive" object....i was told i couldn't even carry mase(which is basically a necessity for where i work). i could possibly be wrong...but almost positive she said that one appiled to every state. and i think a crossbow migt be considered destructive =)
