no fleas, we check that regularly, she's been fixed, and no sudden changes in food....

Could be anal glands. I have to have my cat's anal glads expressed on occasion, but just one of my cats. It cost about $20 for a tech to do it.

She could just be cleaning, her anal glands could be bothering her. I would call or visit the vet just to check things out. I discovered my cat's gland problems when one became impacted and ruptured. Not a cheap thing when it happens at night and a trip to the emergency vet is needed.

im not sure if it is like dogs but must puppies are born with worms or develope them. this may be the same with your kitten. worms are cheap and easy to treat you just go to your vet and get the medicine even though it is an indoor cat you should keep up with worm medicine because some foods that say they are healthy or organic have some natural products which mean some bacteria has been able to grow on this natural food. it would be best to feel around her tummy if its hard she could have constipation.
keep in check with what she is eating she may need her food to be watered down a bit. i wouldnt switch to wet food its not the greatest for them its a nice treat like chocolate.

Has she been spayed? If not, she may very well be in heat.

Either or, when a cat changes in behavior, it's usually not a bad idea to have a vet give her a basic look-over to see if there's a health problem behind the change.

Could be a urinary tract infection which will be very painful for her & need antibiotics. But.... it could be a whole host of other things too so pointless us all speculating really! She really needs to see a vet a.s.a.p. as she's in obvious discomfort.

Has she been spayed?

If she has, I would suspect some very uncomfortable constipation too.

Could she have fleas? My sister's puppy kept yelping and biting his butt and we found out that he had fleas.
