Science is a process that we use to verify or disqualify presupositions.
For instance, you claim that you are lazy. A scientist might put forth the hypothesis, that based on your behavior, and consistant findings, you are in fact lazy. He then publishes it to the rest of the scientific community, who looks at it and tests the hypothesis. Most will agree and your laziness may become a theory based on a majority of scientists agreeing with it. Later some scientist may make the discovery that your laziness disapears while you are attempting to find pornography online. That scientist will post a new hypothesis, that will be submitted for peer review, which would change the original theory so that it becomes more accurate. The new theory would read, David Brent is lazy except while searching for porn on the computer.
This way a more accurate understanding of your behavior can be established and relied on by humankind based on common repeatable observation and experiment.
Theories are then used as building blocks to help us gain understanding about the future, the past and other similar things. For instance, it becomes reasonable to hypothesize that David Brent will not make a good babysitter if you own a computer, or that David Brent may not be a good hire for an office job etc....
Hope this helps.

At it's minimum, science is a search for unbiased truth. The mechanism of science is one observes, develops a hypothesis to explain the observations. The hypothesis is tested via experimentation etc.--if the hypothesis is disproved it is modified or discarded. Science self police's.
You publish your hypothesis/theory and your work-independant unbiased scientists must be able to reproduce your work. (Classic example--Pons and Fleishman and cold fusion) could not be reproduced). Science requires one piece of evidence that disproves a hypothesis to disprove it.
Religion looks the other way with inconvienent observations and truths about the historical accuracy of some of the stories. On this basis which is a purer search for truth, one that admits it's errors and is self correcting or one that ignores the errors and justifys it with outlandish claims?

Get off your lazy butt.
If you have to have someone tell you what science or religion is you are a ripe candidate for the religiosity of the world.

Religion is based on truth. Science is based on observable fact.
However there are many scientific THEORIES that are based on guesswork and speculation... yet the teachers of these theories expect us to accept these theories as proven fact or consider us idiots for not doing so.
Then there are religious folks who misinterpret scriptures, or who are indoctrinated with the traditions of men ... and expect us to blindly accept their dogmas or we are idiots.
So far I have seen the TRUTH to be in harmony with proven Fact. It is only the cases of unproven science fiction and misinterpreted scripture and false doctrines that artificial conflicts arise. The true idiots are those who offer science fiction as science fact.... and those who offer false doctrines and the traditions of men as truth.

Science is based around facts that support hypothesis, theories, and principals. Religion doesn't concern itself with facts, just blind faith.
