I ask this because in my religion, the gods aren't all knowing and all powerful and all that stuff. I can't blame the gods for everyone, nor expect them to fix everything because they can't. I've noticed the whole "amputee" thing and miricle questions and I wonder, if they didn't claim god was ALL powerful, would it make thier relgion a little more paletable?

IJacon: My gods gave me a brain and expect me to USE it. It's MY life. *I* take care of it. Why should I expect them to fix MY life?

ACow: You show your ignorance of MY religion. I am not a god, not to I think I am.
cheiko: I'm laughing hysterically at that. If you think that, you know nothing of my gods. Then again, I'm sure you know nothing of anthing but you
And for everyone who is claiming I will know his judgement, I assure you I'm not worried. If your god has something to say to me, he can say it my face. Like MY gods do.

I would be more believable. Especially with so many telling the sick and dying that "If you just have faith, God will heal you... he won't break his promises... remember? he is ALL POWERFUL" This was said to my friends mother while she lay dying in the hospital. I was absolutely livid with anger when I heard the pastor say this... She died 2 days later. It made me wonder, did she lose her faith at the last moment when she realized her God was NOT going to fix this for her? Talk about False Hope!

*Gasp* When did you become a Goddess? Should I offer up my beer now? ;-) lol Cracks me up when people comment on something they have no knowledge of. lol

Yes I think it would go a long way to justify the bad things that happen in life. I think that believe is a little more logical than claiming an all powerful God in control of the universe is loving.

All powerful does not mean that God uses all power all the time. He has wisdom, He has restraint, He has free will too ya know. He can grant, give, allow, humans to have free will. Its a fallacy to thing that if something is all powerful, then it uses all power all the time...this is just simply not true.
If God couldn't choose how, when, and how much power to use He really wouldn't be that powerful now would He?

Absolutely, as free will and an omniscient/omnipotent god cannot co-exist. I'd still be an atheist, however, there would be much less ammunition against gods such as thor/zues than there would against "god".

If god is all knowing and all powerful, he can see the future... if he can see the future then he knows your decisions before you make them. If he knows your decisions before you make them, then how can you be accountable (heaven/hell) as you have already made said choices upon conception. There is no logic to this, and therefore you cannont have an omniscient god and free will. Unless said god thrives in suffering (therefore not all good) or cannot see the future (not all knowing/all powerful). Put it this way... I watch a movie, i've seen how it ends. The next time I watch that movie, I have seen into the future of it, can the ending change? No, because I have already seen it.

For Jumping Joy:
I respect your opinion but it also causes a problem for me. If god can prevent the creation of a life, supposedly bound to suffer for all eternity for having been born with skepticism and logical analyses, and doesn't, then how good is it?

LMAO @ some of these answers!!

Many Christians feel all warm and fuzzy inside knowing that what they do and don't do is something they are not accountable for - something else is - God or Satan. It's always "Jesus did this for me.... Satan led him astray..." never "Jesus INSPIRED me to do this or that." Personally, I like knowing my gods expect me to account for my actions or lack of. I know what I should do or not, my gods may INSPIRE me, but they do not MAKE me do anything. I am not a child, I am an adult and my gods expect me to behave as such. None of this "but HE made be do it" BS. I did what I did, whatever the reasons, and so I must deal with the consequences - good, bad, indifferent. That's a god I can deal with. Good thing we're not all required to be Christian, eh?

There are nearly 3 billion Christians in the world, so I don't think 'believability' is a problem.

But more to the point, your question demonstrates a concept of religion as essentially fiction: i.e. 'what kind of story can we make up that people will believe?' Or to put it another way, 'what's a convincing lie'.

In our culture today people like to talk about God as if He is something they make up inside their heads. I'll admit, Theology teaches us to think that way, and Atheists, if they pick up on this (which they do) are quite right to point out that a 'made up god' is no god.

I think that points to the strength of the Christian message, precisely because it is NOT something we can simply manipulate, add to or discard as we feel like it. Christianity is not what humans think of God, it is what God thinks of Humanity. Once you get a hold of the idea that this is God's message, not ours, and that it is our duty to share it, not change it, then you will understand how Christians think.

It likely would mean a drop in collection plate tithes and offerings - so that is why it will be non-profit business as usual - stay the course.

God is "all powerful" sells better than God is "partially powerful."

Are you also taking out the 'god created everything notion'?

"Extreme claims require extreme evidence."

If you shrink god to where he's just some powerful 'watcher' that never really does anything then the claim also gets smaller and of course the possibility gets easier to accept. However to prove it you still need evidence. It's just that the level of evidence is smaller.

No. I think that it would be hard to believe in a religion that bastardized everyone else's.
I would be more likely to believe in Asatru, Judaism or another older religion that makes so semblance of sense to me.
