People have started coming to see my dogs puppies, she had 4 labrador mix puppies.. we have put up signs in shops in are area and today we meet a women and daughter who wanted one. We met them on the way home from school, mum picked me up, and showed them the way to our house. Anyway I dont want to give them one of the puppies because well they look really rough and my mum asked did they have any other dogs and they said yes a pitbull. Pitbulls are vicious dogs and i really dont want one of the puppies going to live with them.. my mum agrees but what should we do? My mum said she'd call them when they are ready to go...
I have a funny feeling about them and maybe we could find a better home than theres but what should i do??

As the breeder of the dogs, you are responsible for the wellfare of the puppies....you have the right to determine whether or not a home is suitable for placement. Some people will even require a home visit before approving a potential home. While I personally disagree with "they look really rough" as a criteria- I have a neighbor who is a successful attorney, has a beautiful home and is obviously well educated, he is not a very good dog owner- his little westie is forever running loose in the road, one morning he was leaving and the dog was in the street, instead of stopping and putting the dog inside, he just honked his horn to make the dog move out of his path. Some pit bulls can be dog aggressive, but again I would not rule out a home just because of the breed of the current dog(s) in the home- My mom has a pit bull, a corgi, and three cats living together. I would go to there house, see where they keep the dogs, make sure they don't have months worth of poop piled all over the yard, judge for yourself the disposition of their current dog, see if he looks healthy and well cared for, etc. then decide.

It really isnt the breed it is the dog owner! A lab mix is a good size and equal to a pit in energy as well.
If you are concerned then go to the home and visit to see how well she controls the dog. Also take the puppy over to visit and watch their interaction.
If you really want to make sure your puppies go into a good home and are well matched, the PLEASE spend a few dollars to get this DVD by Cesar Millan - "Your new dog"
Let me tell you that a chihuahua can be as viscious as any other dog and I have the scars to prove it!

First of all, don't judge pit bulls by what you hear about them. They act how their owner teaches them to act. Secondly, if I was selling/giving puppies away I would go and visit the homes of the people that are interested in adopting them to see what their home condition is and how their other animals are treated and how they act toward you and other animals before I made a decision. Someone may look like they would be a really good person and treat an animal good but looks can be deceiving. You never full know but you would have a better idea by seeing their home and their animal interaction as well. Also, trust your gut/initial instinct about people because it is usually correct.

Your mom can give or not give the puppies to anyone she wants.
I am sure that on the signs you put up that it said "to good home" somewhere on the sign. Well, your mom gets to decide if the home is good or not.
Pitbulls are not vicious dogs, but can be trained to be by their owners.
So just find other homes for your pups and do not call the woman. If she does contact your mom about the pup, just tell her that
she already had a dog and you want to give the pups to someone who doesn`t already have a dog and who will give it the training and attention a pup needs.

Here's the thing.. I have found if you feel funny about someone, then don't let them have a puppy.. You might never know why you feel that way, and you might even be wrong about them.. But you are talking little puppies that you are responsible for.. It's better to be safe than sorry.. They are depending on you to find them good homes.. Stick with your instincts!

First of all your dog had no business having puppies. You do not know where these puppies are going. You should have an application for people to fill out and check them out before letting a puppy go anywhere. YOU are responsible for these puppies because YOU were irresponsible in not getting your POOR dog spayed.
Do NOT give them away for free.
Your best bet would be to give them to a no-kill shelter where they can properly screen potential adoptors. THe shelter will have the people sign a spay/neuter contract also.
GET YOUR DOG SPAYED!!!!!!!!!!

If you don't want to give them to that family you really don't have to. They are your puppies to give out and you should just tell them that you've found another home with a relative or something. I think that would be more polite than simply not calling at all, and not calling could cause them to come see you again and that may be awkward.
However, don't be so quick to judge the pitbull. My friend has one and he's the sweetest dog I know! :]

you do not have to sell or give the puppies to anyone you feel will not give them a good home. I had to turn away 3 different people when I was looking for homes for my pups. Just the way it is. I would rather have some stranger be mad at me that I wouldn't give a pup too, then have one of my pups go to a bad home and not be taken care of.
Go with your gut feeling.

Definitely go with your gut on that one! If they had a puppy mysteriously get hurt like that I wouldn't want my pups to go there either. Just tell them that you already got rid of all the pups. I know it's not right to lie but if you don't want to tell them you aren't comfortable with them owning one of your pups it's an option. Btw, couldn't help it, pits are only aggressive if they are brought up wrong, which with the way these people sound, he was. :0)
good luck!

Honestly, you need to go with your gut feeling. If they don't seem like the right family to have a dog, then, just don't call them back. Did you give them your phone number? If so, if they try to call, just ignore the call. You can find, and will find other dog lovers out there, looking for the right pup, that you have! Just keep posting flyers up, and you will get more calls!
I hope that I helped! Thanks, and, good luck,
