I found this definition of the word prey to be very interesting. ( Please consider the last most example by Addison. ) :

Prey \Prey\, v. i. [imp. & p. p. Preyed; p. pr. & vb. n.
Preying.] [OF. preier, preer, L. praedari, fr. praeda. See
Prey, n.]
To take booty; to gather spoil; to ravage; to take food by
violence.

More pity that the eagle should be mewed, While kites
and buzzards prey at liberty. --Shak.

To prey on or upon.
(a) To take prey from; to despoil; to pillage; to rob.
--Shak.
(b) To seize as prey; to take for food by violence; to seize
and devour. --Shak.
(c) To wear away gradually; to cause to waste or pine away;
as, the trouble preyed upon his mind. --Addison.

Prayer and Preying are really two wholly different things which is like comparing a person to an inanimate object. A prayer can be made to a human being just as much as it can be made to God because a prayer is really a petition, asking God for something. Prayers that have results from the Divine are unselfish, sincere, heartfelt and soulful. True mature prayer to God has an eternal value element to it; praying to human beings is only that, and has a limited temporal value. Answers to prayers do come, whether they are granted with a yes, a no, a later or something different. But God is the perfect parent, all sincere prayers are heard and answered in God's best time for the one praying. Never ever is true prayer not answered. The Divine Perfect Parent sometimes witholds an answer to a prayer until such time as the the imperfect human mortal earns a certain amount of understanding first. No perfect parent ever imparts information to their child before the child can comprehend the meaning. Selfish praying on the other hand is not the same as unselfish true prayer. Selfish praying for material wealth for example, is just not a proper prayer. God knows what we need before we ask it and our material affairs are not all his responsibility - we are to work for our existence in life and we are to be as responsible for our own welfare as is humanly possible... for God to give to us as spoiled children, for example, every THING material we ever asked for would indicate God is not eternally and infinitely wise.

So preying to man for material goods is obviously ungodly - completely selfish, egoisitic and self centered - greedy and worse.

Well, the other day on TBN Benny Hinn said that he met with a rich businessman in southern California who gave $40,000,000 to his local synagogue and then went bankrupt.

The businessman asked Benny Hinn why his financial seed bore no fruit. Benny pondered and said it was because the businessman gave the $40,000,000 to the pastor of the synagogue and not to God.

Prey tell...is prayer with a $40,000,000 seed attached worth a hoot?

A prayer is originally not a magical means to achieve something, but a tool used to work with yourself.
