I'm planning on taking a trip to Toronto sometime next Spring...I was hoping I could do it by Greyhound. But the thing is I live in a small city in east Texas (Mt. Pleasant, about 120 mi. east of Dallas), with a Greyhound station, but I was wondering how does Greyhound work? I do intend to go to the station soon and ask them how I can go about doing this, but asking on here never hurts. What I want to know is...

1. About how much is this going to cost, a round trip for about four days? I figured it up on the site, and it came out to be about $350.

2. How does it work? I don't see a straight trip from my town to Toronto...am I going to have to change buses more than a few times?

3. What's traveling by Greyhound like? I've heard horror stories and good things too...I'd prefer to travel by bus because I love scenery and I'd love to see everything between here and there...plus I think it's cheapest...

4. Will I need to get a passport to get into Canada?

Thanks a lot! :-)

You really must be illiterate -- the Greyhound website describes the routing from Mt. Pleasant, TX to Toronto, ON in great detail with the routing going from Mt. Pleasant, TX to Nashville, TN where you transfer to a bus to Detroit, MI. In Detroit you transfer to a bus to Toronto.

Why on earth would there be a direct bus route from Mt. Pleasant, TX to Toronto, ON?

You will likely need a passport to return to the United States?

that trip by greyhound would be BRUTAL. i went from atlanta to toronto on greyhound n i have no idea how i made it.

- you will have to change buses multiple times. (at least 3 times)

i would suggest that you fly to Buffalo NY by airtran airplanes, they're a really cheap airline. ( http://www.airtran.com/Home.aspx ) i checked it, and if u buy the tickets ahead of time it is 135$ (one way)

- then take a train to toronto. the scenery is beautiful on the train ride. www.amtrack.com has one way tickets from buffalo to toronto for 37$. ( http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Amtrak/HomePage )

this combination to plane and train would be the same price as taking greyhound, without the uncomfortable seats, smelly bus, and never ending roads. you'll have extra time to go out and enjoy the city of toronto, instead of an extra 30 hours being on a greyhound.

i thought the same thing about wanting to see the scenery my first time i took greyhound, but trust me, it gets really old after abuot the first 2 hours. really all you'll be seeing is open fields. the train ride to toronto from buffalo does have some amazing views... and its only for about 2 or 3 hous, so its not being over-done.

as of rite now you only need a drivers liscence to get into canada. but in summer 2008 they're changing to requirements to a passport.

its really funny, and a bit of an exageration, but basicaly is what the greyhound ride from dallas-toronto would be like.

hope i helped.

I would think Greyhound's website would have most of the info you're looking for. My guess is you'd have to change buses at least once [maybe in Chicago? or Detroit?].

Re the passport - rules are changing about that. You may not need one to get into Canada, but you probably will to get back into the U.S. Good idea to have one, regardless. And it is taking quite some time to process them, so don't wait too long.

You could always try travelling by train too. that is a long distance to be sitting, sleeping, eating on a bus.
