Christmas is coming and I usually ask for a ring or other jewelery gift from my beloved. I have been looking at black diamonds on-line & find them intriguing - but am not sure about them - after all, they have no real clarity, do they, like a real white diamond? Do they have much value? Has anyone bought a black diamond? If so, what do you think of it - do you like it? Here's the link to one I was looking at - http://www.mysolitaire.com/Jewelry/JewelryDetails/Template4.aspx?refid=Search&Item_ID=5006
Thanks!

I don't want an Onyx (have one thanks) and I already have a dark blue sapphire. I am intrigued by the idea of a "black" diamond, itself. Something different, I guess...

Oooh, I think they're really pretty "goth" - and it's a neat ring!
Go for it! Have you seen this one - http://applesofgold.com/BDRG-16.html

Great ring! I use to manage a jewelry store and personally have 2 black diamond rings, my wedding bands are platinum anniversary bands with black instead of white diamonds. I love them! They don't really have calrity, or I should say it doesn't matter because you couldn't see the internal flaws anyways. What black diamonds are is very very dark green diamonds that look black. No they don't sparkle like white diamonds, but they aren't suppose to. The benefit of black diamonds over onyx or sapphire is the hardness and durability. Plus a really dark sapphire is a cheap sapphire, not a quality item. I love the ring! It is different and daring. I've been eyeing the studs on that website.

When colored diamonds are treated or color enhanced they are not dyed. They are irradiated to remove other colors.

I wanted to buy my husband black diamond cufflinks but they were way too expensive. What I know about them is that they are very rare and incredible looking. I would talk to a jeweler about the best quality of a black diamond. The ones in the cufflinks I saw looked much better than the ring in your link, which reflects in the price - the cufflinks were $5,000.

Good luck with your search!

That one just isn't attractive.
I had a black diamond and pearl ring - the black diamond is the same shape and size as the pearl, in an asymmetrical kind of setting, with two small diamonds. I lost it years ago, and sorely MISS it. Could never find any other one similar.
Well, I love this setting, tho the pic quality isn't good -

I don't know much about black diamonds. I really like that ring though! It reminds me of a dark blue sapphire necklace I had a long time ago. I think its a good pick. I usually pick jewelery I like and don't worry much about the clarity and all that of the jewels.

I adore them, so much more character than the normal clear diamond.

I think they are neat and was looking for one myself.
The thing you have to be aware of and cautious about is getting one that is "color treated" or "color enhanced" - - this is pretty much the gemstone equivalent of being dyed.
A true black diamond will probably cost you more than a real diamond - - so the price tag on this ring concerns me and makes me think it might be treated or a fake (cubic zirconia).
