Guys like Harvick, Newman, Kahne, Jr., etc. are still touted as "Young Guns".

I thought this would be a "fun" question, and, I know, Gillette has a lot to do with it, but writers and commentators are using this term a lot as well.

I would have to say about 10 years..a little more or a little less. Jeff Gordon stopped being "The Kid" around 1999 or 2000, though he did have three Winston Championships to his name by then.
Although by the end of the year, a lot of the drivers now are considered experienced, they still have a lot to learn before they stop making rookie mistakes.
As for the Gillette Young Guns, the oldest of them are Dale Jr and Kenseth who have only been in the Cup series seven years.

NASCAR is now recruiting foreign drivers who are not young so very few "young" drivers are rookies any more and since Gillette has to do commercials, they are keeping the same guys. These guys have no championships and 1 win among them in 2007. Young drivers like Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth, and Kurt Busch have Cup championships so they are considered seasoned veterans I guess.

I think it has more to do with the age of the people. All the people you said, are the perfect age, of NASCAR fans. They are ones younger, and they don't get the attention that they should. Most people are between 24 an 40 that watch the Races, and it marketed toward them.

Interesting question. I think it as a little more to do with age. I say that because Newman's still a "young gun" but he's been around a few years.
Cousin Carl is finishing up his 3rd Cup year, and he's still a young gun.
Yeah, it's more of a marketing thing. If you LOOK young and you've won a few- you're a young gun.
If you're young, look old and fat, and you don't win- you're "Who?????"

i'm gonna say Curtis Turner, yeah he is going till now, Run it till it breaks. He even have been given banned by utilising Nascar for attempting to commence a drivers Union. cheating replace right into a existence-variety with him. He replace into Nascar's first undesirable boy. maximum folk say Dale Sr, and now Kyle Busch. yet Curtis Turner replace into great undesirable. circulate Dale Jr & Hms

I remember the first time they stopped calling Jeff Gordon 'the kid' and began calling him a 'seasoned vetren', it was 2 races after Dale Sr. died in 2001. even tho jeff already had 3 winston cups at the time. so i guess its about 7 or 8 years. seems like after Big E died, rookies are called vetrens alot faster than they should be.

When they get enough marketable young replacements in to fill the Gillette commercials! It's all about marketing!
