...where I live, it is ILLEGAL for me to hold public office, for no other reason than the fact that I'm an atheist.
Does this seem fair or reasonable to you?

EDIT: How very charitable and Christ-like of you, Steve N! Apparently, some folks need some remedial schooling in the Constitution as well as basic Logic & Debate...
BTW -- here's the proof:

Apparantly the Bible trumps the constitution on this one.

To me, that seems ILLEGAL. We try to maintain some separation of church and state, but how can you effectively do that if you have to follow some sort of faith to hold a public office in that state?
That's very close to a catch 22...

It would appear to be unconstitutional, since it requires that an office holder subscribe to some religion. This comes rather close to establishing "religion" in general.

I thought Maryland was...well, no, I guess I didn't. John Waters' movies are really not the best PR for Maryland. That is outrageous. I don't see how it could withstand a test.

Did you see where Bush told Musheriff or whatever his name is that you can't be president and head of the military at the same time? apparently Bush didn't read his own job description.

I would think its unconstitutional, though the argument might be made that atheists do not have religion, thus do not need religious freedom protections.

Nah, seems ridiculous.
Doesn't mean I'd vote you into office, of course. Depends upon how you apply or don't apply your Atheism while in office.
