Good question. It will be interesting to read the responses. As far as me, I do consider myself honest. I don't steal, I don't take things that don't belong to me and I help others when I can. I figure some day the deeds will be returned. As far as would I ever steal. The honest truth is that everyone no matter what, will steal under extreme circumstances. Mine are:
1. I don't have a job.
2. I have no more savings.
3. I have sold everything that I own.
4. I cannot get any assistance for housing or food for my family and no friends of family to help.
Pushed into a corner to provide food and housing for my family, I might be pushed to steal. If anyone tells you differently, as horrible as it sounds.. I think they would be lying.
Just my thoughts, but great question.

I'm as dishonest as the day is long.
I'd steal under any circumstances if it was expedient and/or immediately profitable, though I'd baulk at taking anything from individuals. I wouldn't steal your car, your money or any of your personal and private property. I'd never enter your home without your permission, and if I did I would take nothing from it.
But you may go in to work one morning to find your desk missing. The only things I would leave would be the photo of your kids, any pen that looked as though it might have been paid for and your mug.
Might steal your wife, though, if you have been complacent and she's looking for a diversion. Or at least borrow her for a while :oP
I'm *really* not a nice bloke that way :o)

I think I am a gentleman, so I will never steal.
But against evil people, I think a gentleman should like a gentleman, that is to say a wise man, not a fool. So the following is the case:
But there is such a case I shall certainly steal, for example if I were raped by a gang of evil people and be forced in a closet or such case. I have no strength enough to fight with them, then I will tease them, I will steal the key, the money or the pistol to escape, to protect myself.

Well, Prof, you have a way of stirring up some responses !
If my children were dying I might be tempted as before but I wouldn't steal from others to cause their distress or their children to suffer. Those who steal for profit are the real thieves whether it is stationery from the office or a whole rain-forest. They are not in need, only greedy or too lazy to work for what they want. Thank goodness most of us had a good upbringing. Or is it only the honest ones who have replied ?

I wouldn't steal under any circumstances.! Oops! sorry, I lied. I walk the dog in the orchard and I did pick up a pear from the fallers.
The other morning, I went to put my float in the till and found a £10 note that had been left from the previous shift. I put it in a coin bag and marked it 'found in till 1' and the date. If I had been dishonest one of my colleagues would have been £10 down.

Never would I steal, I would...well err, wait a minute...I ahh, well maybe....
Man, that is a rough one! I have never stolen anything, but would I steal? I don't know. I could only think of one thing that would cause me to steal and that would be to provide for my family. I mean if all else failed...if I had absolutely no other way to make sure my kids would eat that day, I guess I would steal...
Thank God I don't have to!

I'm exceptionally honest, but there are still times where a lie is best for everyone's sake. As for stealing - Well say if my child needed some medicine or they'd die, and the Chemist was closed but I knew they had the right medicine, then I'd steal it. I'd pay the owner back though!

I am very honest.
The only circumstances I would steal would be unemployement and needing to eat. Even then, there are other ways around it. No one needs to resort to stealing.

Never, although i can't say I have never been tempted. Im a cop and came across a jewellery shop in the early hours, that had just been ram raided, no one knew except me not even the alarm had gone off. However I collected loads of gems from the street that the raiders had left in their getaway and called it in, I even let the jeweller search me to prove I had not kept any jewels some of which were in excess of £2000, how honest is that?

I feel if, I was really unable to make an honest living, I would only steal to make sure my daughter had food and clothing, but on the other hand, I would have to say I'd rather make an honest living than go to jail for stealing.
