I would have some red and some white.
Sparkling wine is always a good idea to have handy at a celebration.
You didn't mention how many people, but you could buy multiple bottles of the same wine, or get a variety if you are buying very many.
Stay away from the cheap grocercy store plonk like yellowtail (it screams "cheap"), but that doesn't mean you have to spend a fortune either. There are very good wines from regions like Spain, Argentina, New Zealand, Washington state, etc.
You need to take a friend that knows wine with you, or find a wine specialty store that can provide advice.

If they are (real) wine drinkers then they might enjoy something adventurous. In the white, try an albarino (Spain). In the reds, look at dolcetto or rhone-style blends. These are getting hot and are still pretty cheap. If it were my party I would find 2-3 on each side.
If you want to play it safe, I would stick with a zinfandel on the red side and a Riesling on the white. Both are generally tasty to all levels of wine drinkers and I think that people are so quick to go for the standard cabernet sauvignon and CA chard that your guests will appreciate your thoughtfulness in going another direction.
Definitely get some bubbly, but I think fountains are kind of weird and gross - too much exposure to the elements. Look into prosecco - Italian bubbly that may be cheaper (and another unique adventure)

Both white and red wines. Most wine drinkers dont want the really sweet type.Have a person who is a wine drinker give you some help in your selections or talk to the clerk at your local wine shop or winery. For this type of celebration I would consider having champagne for toasts or in a champagne fountain. I would have some other liquor or pitcher of mixed drinks available also for those who prefer not to drink wine.

If you want a white wine pleaser for all go for a nice Californian Chardonnay or Savagnin Blanc. If you go for red a good couple of crow pleasers are Shiraz or Cabernet Sauvignon. Make sure they are new world i.e. North or South American, Australia, South Africa as new word stuff isn't as complex as the old world wines. Good luck and enjoy the party :-)
