The actual kind of pan is a loaf pan. My preferred loaf pan is 8 1/2" L x 4 1/2" W x 2 3/4" H made of aluminum from Williams-Sonoma.

A clear glass Pyrex loaf pan is best. This way your able to see the sides of the cake as its cooking to check for golden color, and you dont get the metallic flavor of a steel pan.The Pyrex type of pans are 'oven tempered'.

Loaf pans work great for pound cake and they give you the traditional shape. I have used a bundt pan but you need to double the recipe so that it is not too dry.

If your recipe calls for a tube/bundt pan, you can substitute 2 9x5 loaf pans. Don't use dark pans or glass without reducing oven temp by 25 degrees. Hope it helps.

I like to use a glass pyrex loaf pan. If not, I use a bundt pan, but it takes double the amount of cake mix.
