Like the other guy said. You will regret getting rid of XP. Vista is a joke and will probably end up being the new version of ME. Discontinued and unsupported.

IF you have an OEM version of XP, keep it . Vista is ok but not as good as XP. All prorams are compatible in XP not in Vista. Dont go by the flashy looks of it. You can think of installing vista after the first service pack is released in january, till then its better if u use XP. I've been using vista since march, frankly speaking i'm not at all pleased with the performance.
Moreover you would need a strong processor and atleast 1 GB of ram for vista to run properly.
Even then if u want to install vista , just upgrade xp to vista. in that way you wont lose any data or drives.

I hope you have a license for that copy of XP! Seriously the copy may be backdoored or send your details to a hacker/thief Just insert the copy of xp and install over vista. I would partition the HDD to check that it works because if it doesn't you are screwed once you have deleted vista. Try it in virtualbox which is free software that allows you to install an operating system inside another one. You could try downloading Ubuntu (not via utorrent - try an official site) and using it instead. It is not good for games but is supported at least (your copy of xp won't be registered so you won't get service packs or updates!) Install wubi to find out if Ubuntu if good enough for you. It will be faster on your system and can do everything except window's games.

Pray.

I think this should be considered an upgrade and you wouldn't have to worry about it.

You may have to spend all day installing it and then a hour or two, if you're on broadband installing updates.

A lot of people are cursing Vista Basic. They say that's not much better than XP and that's being kind. I'd call Microsoft and ask them if you can reinstall XP if you find that Vista is really Busta.

I believe for some versions of Vista you have to have one gig of ram. Vista basic is 512.

If you a good copy of vista I'd just get rid of XP. You should have the driver disk that Acer gave or just go through the device manager and download from the internet

If your computer boots up alright in Vista when you select it from the menu, then you are in no danger of losing drivers if you remove XP. When it boots in Vista it is not using anything from the XP drive.

You can NOT format the C drive if you are running from the C drive. You would have to boot into Vista (D Drive) and then format the C drive from there.

if you r scared of loosing your drivers etc, i would just remove xp from the boot manager. to do this in xp...
1. open up system properties and click the advcanced tab, the the bottom settings button.
2. select vista as the default os and untick the 'tiime to display list of os' box

i would try then to uninstall as much as you can from c: for extra space

aslong as vista is not referring bak to xp for drivers, it shud work without xp if u format c : ... i wouldnt have thought it would.

try 1 at once if u wish... if ur not sure i would just get the xp option removed from the boot menu.

hope this helps u ;-)

What I did about a year ago while I was installing Windows XP on my laptop was just select the one you want to delete than press delete and go on starting up your computer with windows vista.
It worked for me, if you have any trouble you can usually call the number on the box and someone will walk you right through it.
