You don't say what kind of training you want to do, just obedience training? Toilet training?

Anyway, start off by not letting the puppy go or sleep anywhere that it wont be allowed to when it grows up into a dog.

Keep training sessions short, about 5 minutes for a small pup.

Hold a treat up high, then over its head so that it sits back to look up, say the command SIT and give the treat or a pat. Repeat this until it sits on command. At the end of each task give a release, such as "ok".

Most Training is really conditioning and that is why positive re-inforcement works so well. The dog will follow a command because it is rewarding.

There are a number of websites that will take you through different aspects of puppy training:
housebreaking
http://www.inch.com/~dogs/cratetraining.html
crate training
http://dogpublic.com/articles/article.aspx?t=training411&sid=14&pid=97
Here's a great trainer's list that will help you a lot:
http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/spt/
You'll never get any "Be the boss!!!!!!!!" advice on that list. This is an all positive list with a lot of people there to help. No choke chains, electric shock collars, or punishments will be recommended there.
Good luck!
