If I eat oatmeal and fruits for lunch and breakfast, why can't I eat pizza, cookies and other junk foods ? I eat little fat and calories for lunch and breakfast and it's all about the calories right???

Not that I know of. It's all about the amount of fat you intake and burn daily. If you eat more fat than you burn, what will happen??? You'll gain.

I've been doing this for 26 years...calories are a good measuring tool, but fat content, saturated fat content as just as important. Also the amount of sugar you intake could be an issue.

The problem with 'junk food' is the amount of sugars and fats that in them compared to 'non junk food'. These components tend to 'turn into' body fat instead of being consumed for energy.

Another thing to consider. Your body needs a specific amount of vitamins, minerals, sugars, carbs, etc. to remain healthy. To keep an active lifestyle which includes exercise that should be a part of ANY diet, you must provide your body with these essentials. Before a diet, you were probably eating more than you do now, thus getting the essentials from all the food. By cutting down on the intake amount, you must be smarter about the foods so that you 'bring in' the essentials you need with the smaller amount of food you are eating.

All diets consist of 'Eating less', Eating Smarter and Exercise.

If you don't do ALL 3 of the above, you 1)won't lose weight, 2)feel run down and tired, 3)will find your body storing for the 'feast and famine' cycle and most importantly you will find it easy to quit the diet because it's too difficult.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

there is a LOT more to losing weight than calories in vs. calories out.

the source of the calories in your diet is more important than the calories that they provide. the foods that we eat have a direct effect on the endocrine system and the endocrine system governs the human body. highly processed foods have a negative effect on the body and the endocrine system responds accordingly.

the calories and nutrients from whole foods like fruits, vegetables and whole grains have a positive effect on the health while calories from processed foods like cookies, candy and other junk foods have a negative effect on the health. the human body is not designed to consume such foods.

Yes. you are exactly right. a calorie is calorie. However junk food are cheap calories. Lots of calories with little nutritional value. For example you might get the same amount of calories from eating a bag of doritos and a sliced apple with peanut butter. But the doritios has more calories from fat. whereas the apple and peanut butter does not. Also the apple and peanut butter make you feel fuller longer and you end up eating less later.

It's also about nutrition. Junk food in limited amounts.
Limit the amount of junk you eat because it has little nutritional value. Your body needs nutritious foods to function well.

Feed it lots of junk and that's what you get. You may have an increased risk of health problems later. It's something to consider.

You are correct. Weight loss is only about the calories. Your overall health requires a nutritious diet. You can have some junk food as long as you are not eating more calories than you are burning. A balanced diet and calorie counting would be best.

Because you are trying to turn around from your bad habits. Eat junk food as little as possible. Okay? I know it seems tough and all these new healthy foods don't appeal yet, but in time they will. Believe me.

You are right. But do you know what correct food portions are? To eat pizza for a meal, 2 slices are your limit. If you can eat only 2 slices, go for it. I would suggest have some type of fruit for dessert and a glass of low fat milk also.
