Aw. Im really sorry for you. The same thing happened to me a few years back. I had my cat for about 14 years - although he was a family cat...i knew he liked me the best! When it was getting near the end of his time, i kind of felt it. There was something lacking - maybe energy or interest. So for a few weeks he just sort of slumped round the house and slept alot in corners. Then one day he was really bad. He'd take a couple of steps and just collapse. He couldnt drink or eat for a day. So me and my dad took him to the vet (i wrapped him in my jumper so that he wouldnt be scared). The taxi driver was saying that his cat looked the same - he got a booster jag and he was fine!! Even though i was hopeful, deep down i knew it was lost. So the vet examined him and explained that most of the organs were shutting down and it would be fairer for our cat to get put down. Even though i was sooo upset and crying (i loved that cat!) I knew it was the best for him. He was suffering the way he was. That was the hardest part.
After that LONG story :) I guess im just trying to say its more than likely old age...and even though its hard, take her to the vet and take the Vets advice. I know its the saddest thing ever but im sure your family will be there for you.
Good luck love, you'll be fine. :)

Perhaps find out what exactly is wrong with your pet, discuss it with the vet... you probably have a telephone, and you can call them to find out... i'm sure they have a technician who will talk with you and explain the problem.
Hon, i'm very sorry your cat is ill. It seems she's lived a good, long life. Sometimes owners have to make tough decisions about euthanasia... if your pet is suffering, it might be in her best interest to put them down.
On the other hand, if your pet's life and COMFORT can be extended with medications, there is nothing wrong with asking your parents and sister about this alternative.
Sometimes talking things out is more helpful then hiding in a shell.... please make an effort to talk with someone (preferably your family members) about this.
I'm sorry you're having such a hard time.

I'm sorry to hear your cat is sick, it can be a very traumatic time, especially if you have known you pet since you were a baby, as you have.
You don't actually say what is wrong with your cat...the best thing to do is to listen to what your vet has to say about what is the kindest thing to do. I think you should definitely talk to your parents and your sister to tell them how you're feeling as well, you will probably find that really, they are just as upset and distressed as you are.

Sometimes loving something means letting go. If an animal is in pain and suffering then its selfish to keep it alive for our own love of that animal. I have a dog in severe pain that all i have got to put to sleep. Its not an easy thing to do, shes a member of my family. But since i do love her I am not going to have her live the rest of her life in pain and misery for my sake.

I agree listen to your vet. If the animal is suffering it maybe for the best! I have 2 boy cats one 11 and one 12 I worry about them getting sick all the time, I have had them since they were babies.
Keep your head up!

If your cat is pain then perhaps putting her to sleep might be kinder, but if the condition could be treated, personally I would treat her.
