according to the bible, it's a sin for a man to spill his seed anytime other than when engaged in intercourse with a woman, because it's killing all of the would be babies.
1) is it a sin for a woman to masturbate, because this has nothing to do with preventing life from starting?
2) is menstration a sin, because it is the act of discarding unfertalized eggs, therefore preventing a life from starting?
i asked this yesterday but some people found it offensive and got it deleted, which is silly, so i'm asking it again because i didn't get to read all of the answers.

1) Masturbation is not noted specifically in Scriptures.....our thoughts that lead to the action are probably more sinful than the act itself. This goes for a man or a woman
2) No.....this is the natural cycle of things as created by the Lord. It is for the purpose of cleaning out the woman's womb. I just hate the nasty attitude that comes along with this cycle.
(Yes....I have a wife so....I know)
You know me by now Riegan.......I am a Bible-believing, born-again Christian to the bone. But I must say.....this is a good question and did not offend me in any way.

Actually the guy sinned because he supposed to take his brother's wife and have kids. He disobeyed by spilling the goods. Masturbation has nothing to do with it.
Masturbation is not addressed directly.
I found a blurb that explains it a little better:
"Why did God kill Onan for spilling his seed on the ground? The reason God did this is not because Onan wasted his seed on the ground, but because Onan refused to perform his familial duties of producing offspring for his brother's. This was a great offense at the time. Now, we must realize that the culture was very different than ours is today. In that culture, when a man died and left no children, the next of kin was sometimes obligated to "go into" the wife and produce children. These children were then considered to be the descendents of the original late husband and would be raised as such. This way, the offspring would be able to take care of the mother, provide more people for the community, and thereby raise their own children, continuing the name of that family. Onan knew this and refused to take part in furthering the honor and name of the brother's wife and thereby also risking provision for her in the future. To this, God was very displeased and took Onan's life. "
The only way it would be sinful is if you were thinking sexual things about another married person while doing so or being married and doing that while thinking about another married person.
BTW - whoever had your question deleted was a dork. Also the reason didn't have to do with killing babies, the cells aren't combined to make a fetus. Whoever said that was foolish.
-- whoever gave me a thumbs down for this very accurate answer is also a dork. --

The Bible DOES NOT say that. The sin with the seed was not following the law and giving the woman a baby..it was GREED not masturbation that was the sin. Onan didn't want to share his family wealth with another heir.
Masturbation is not mentioned. Menstruation is part of being a female human ..not a sin..YOU are misreading the Bible..
as for the other questions..you didn't listen then either...

#2 definitely should not be a sin because we have no control over getting our periods (without surgery or pills or something like that). I'm aware of the text in the OT about spilling the seed but I think that's less of a sin than the fornication that the Bible talks about.
I have a hard time with sexual sin because it's so natural to want to have sex. We are almost hard wired to want it. It seems almost unfair - you're damned if you do (get married) and damned if you don't (fornicate).

someone deleted it? whatever
first of all, how could masturbation be a sin based on the fact that the sperm is not being used to fertilize an egg, when only one sperm fertalizes an egg after intercourse, and all the rest just die?
and yes, by that logic, women can masturbate, and menstration would be a sin

It is a sin to lust after someone, to think of someone other than your husband/wife in a sexual way is considered adultery even if neither is married at the time. When a person masturbates they tend to have sexual thought which is a sin. It could also be considered a form of fornication in some eyes

you're able to study the Bible and choose for your self in spite of in case you think masturbation is a sin (without confirmation bias). The Bible does not come out and say specifically that masturbation is a sin. there is a few room for interpretation. you're able to elect in spite of if or not you think it is going against the will of God or not.

This is wrong. The Bible doesn't say that. At least get it right, if you want to bash.
Onan in the OT was judged for refusing to raise up seed to his dead brother, not for the act of spilling seed itself. In the OT, having children to carry on your name was one of the biggest honors, so God made provision for those who died before conceiving.

Masturbation isn't a sin.
If you believe in God, you have to consider that parts of the male/female genitals are there for the sole purpose of pleasure. Back when the Bible was written, people got married when they were frickin twelve so it was probably considered a heinous act to whack it or rub one off when you were promised a spouse when you were a baby.
Don't worry about it.

That is not the only reason masturbation is wrong...it's not just the spilling of his seed, but the purposeful use of sexuality in a way it was not intended.
Masturbation for men and women is wrong for a couple of reasons. Usually it involves fantasy and/or pornography. This is the use of other human beings as objects and reduces sex to a self-gratifying pleasure and completely takes God out of it.
Also, sex is to be two things within marriage it is to be unitive and procreative. Masturbation is neither for either sex.
Menstruation is natural. When a woman does not get pregnant her body naturally disposes of the unfertilized egg. Since she is not doing something purposeful to rid herself of her unfertilized eggs...such as in a sterilization...then no, this is not a sin. God created our bodies to function this way.
As long as we are not "doing" something actively to alter our sexuality and the unitive and procreative aspects of it, we are within the will of God. It's when we choose to go outside his will that things begin to fall apart.

Added: Emporer you are wrong. Onan was not killed for not giving his sister-in-law children. Death was not the punishment for this crime. Judah committed the same sin and was not killed. The only difference in Judah and Onan is that Onan spilled his seed. The reason Onan was killed and not just punished for breaking the law was that he spilled his seed. Obviously a sin whose consequence was death...not just public humility as the law called for in the case of not giving children to you sister-in-law. http://www.scripturecatholic.com/contraception.html
