Since Congress passed the age discrimination law, it has made it much harder for someone 40+ to find a job. The reason is that 40 is the magic cutoff. If a company lays off a 40 year old, that person can sue for age discrimination.
Since a company can't fire someone 40+, most of the time they won't hire the person to avoid such a problem.
Ironically, this law was supposed to help older people, while in fact it hurt us.
