Seek counseling.

Most of the time...depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain...it can never be cured..only managed.
What you could do, just to educate yourself, would be to go to the library and check out some books on depression...there are so many types. If you do decide to go to a psychiatrist or a counselor of some type...at least you will present your case with a little background work and some knowledge of the type of depression you think you may have...that will give the counselor and/or psychiatrist at least some way to make up a treatment plan for you...and you will look as if you are very serious about helping yourself out of this depression.
Like I said, there are several types of depression and most can be corrected with medication...however, keep in mind, a psychiatrist is the only person that will be able to prescribe some medication for you...not a psychologist, and not a therapist or a counselor.
There are a lot of new medications out now, combination drugs, and they are very helpful. Depending on what type of depression you have, your doctor may want to prescribe one of the new drugs for you.
If you don't have medical insurance, then you might want to tell your doc this, so they can prescribe the older, less expensive drugs for you...they work, they're just an older medication type...
Meanwhile, while you are deciding on whether or not you need to go to a doctor at all...you can always research it online and read up on the different types of depression...there is a lot of information out there to be had and educating yourself on your condition is never a bad thing...
It's not easy being depressed...and it certainly isn't any easier getting out of the depression...I know..I also suffer from it.
Good luck with finding your treatment...I hope all works out well for you.

The only things you can do: see a doctor for medications, see a therapist to talk about what is troubling you or give in to the urge to shut yourself up and take a very long rest. Not many choices in the matter. You could start exercising for a natural mood elevator, though if you are depressed that is probably the last thing you want to do. You have to keep struggling on. It's not easy.

5htp and Rhodiola Rosea will help.

I've stopped taking my prescribed antidepressants due to the side effects and now take those above - they work far more effectively and don't have the side-effects associated with prescription drugs.

5htp is an amino acid which helps your body to produce serotonin.

Rhodiola Rosea (Siberian Golden Root) is a herb which has been used for thousands of years and extensively researched over the last 30 years. It's non addictive and has no side effects. It helps the body deal with stress and relieves tiredness, depression and anxiety.

I have been taking both for 6 months now and feel great. I have been suffering from depression for a long time and have never managed to find anything before that has helped.

First, you need to seek professional help. There are basically two types of depression. One is chemical, the other is situational. A chemical depression (clinical depression) can usually be remedied by prescription drugs from a psychiatrist. Second, your depression may be due to an overwhelming situation in your life. In that case, you should see a psychologist and to help you through it. Previous comment about getting with friends and seeking distractions is very good too.

For me depression comes when i focus on what I don't have or what I lack

What I do to pull myself out is start to count my blessings

I think about what I have to be grateful for

When I see someone on crutches or in a wheel chair I thank God that I can walk

And then I look at every little thing and I am Great Ful

This has really Helped me

1. realize the problem (done!)
2. seek profesional help to see what is causing your depression
3. Understand your depression- check when it happens, why it happens, how long does it last, and how often you get depressed
4. find someone you feel comfortable talking with besides your psychologist/therapists
5. try different activities as soon as you feel depressed and check the effect it has on your depression to see which works best. ex: walk, run, hang out, read, shop, clean (don't let it become an OCD), write, play, ect.

As someone who has suffered from depression for many years I urge you to talk to you family physician and also get counseling. It took me a long time to do so, and I almost lost my life because of it. I was very embarrassed about my depression. Since I have been on medication and had some counseling my life has been great. Wishing you luck.
