As salaamu 'alaikym, my friend.
Insha'Allah, we are taught in Islam to seek aid from Allah, Subhanna wa Ta'ala and only from Him (i.e., in that we realize that all blessings, regardless of whom they are delivered through or by whatever other means they are delivered come from Allah (swt)).
Insha'Allah, we even have special salaah for rain, which is very understandable as Islam through the Holy Qur'an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (sallahu 'alaihi wasallaam) in Saudi Arabia where water is more precious and more deisred than gold or oil.
When Allah (swt) answers their prayers, the faithful will give thanks apporpriately and those without faith will say it was only a natural occurence yet all will have been blessed with the needed rainfall. Alhumdulillah!
IN the meantime, perhaps we who live in this country will pause to consider that natural resources are not endless and if not properly used and preserved, they can and will vanish and be lost forever. We should be considering the same not just in regards to water, but also to clean soil, minerals, clean air, etc. Perhaps we need to carefully consider that one can not eat nor drink money, nor the plastics and other chemicals that we produce along with a host of other manufactured poisions.
May Allah, Subhanna wa Ta'ala, guide us all to the truth and teach us to respect and appreciate the very gifts He has so well blessed us with and, may we use the same wisely for the Love of Allah (swt).
Ma'a salaam.

There is a gap between the circle of known and the unknown. The circle of known expands with knowledge every day. But the circle of unknown is still bigger. There are many things like faith and belief which work wonders for reason not known to us as yet. Its also true our idea about these things are limited.
So to try and define such things is foolishness but to say there is nothing ( just because we do not know) is equally foolish. Remember it took a 1000 years or more just to know that the earth was round ...

He is not forcing anyone to pray. Would you also object if he had local "native" Americans perform a rain dance?
The main crisis in GA is the drought. Should he sit back and say that his hands are tied or should he try everything he can (short of sacrificing babies, of course) to get a little relief? I think so.

Zechariah 10:1 Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; so the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.
Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
I live South Texas so I know what it's like to be hot and dry. I'll put those folks in my prayers. Maybe I'm not asking this for myself, but do you think that will matter to God? I hope it matters enough to bring them a steady, helpful rain without flash floods.
(Gotta be specific when ya ask, sometimes prayer can be more powerful than you anticipate. Especially if you want it to precipitate!)

I don't have a problem with it. I believe in the power of prayer, but I also believe God wants us to do everything we can to help a situation so you shouldn't ONLY rely on prayer. (for example, water conservation, etc. needs to be employed too.) If you don't believe in prayer, at least it is an experience where people of differing faiths can come together to try something positive!
("Perdue's office has sent out invitations to leaders from several faiths for the service, set for Tuesday.")

I am with belove, what is the harm in it. I think it is a positive thing, it brings people together, and sending a lot of positive waves. It is like when the Native American's would do rain dances, it brings a very positive spiritual connection and the will of the people in harmony.
More power to you, hope it works out!!!

It's the same thing that started religion.
They think:
"The only solution is rain, and the only place we get that is from a higher power,"
So they try to please the god, him up there in the air, that maketh the thunder and sendeth the rain. Maybe he didn't sendeth the rain because we been naughty and pappy ain't pleased? Oh my....
More strong evidence that religion is superstiiton.
How is it different from doing a rain dance? At least a rain dance is a dance and you get some exercise.
The sad thing is, even though we have the knowledge to avert the droughts that are caused by man-made interference such as over-intensive topsoil depletion and over-farming...
You'd think they would change their ways...but no...
Pray to Pappy for rain! Pray for topsoil!!

PS not all droughts are human-made.

Why not pull out all the stops? Where's the harm?
I believe God answers prayers, if they are in accordance with his will, but even if you don't believe that, who's harmed by it? I say go for it. The worst that can happen is it won't work. The best is that it'll rain.
