They're awesome. The people themselves are about 3 inches tall--the song from the airplane will get stuck in your head--I catch myself humming it when I'm not with the kids (pathetic, I know). If your child is around 1 yr old, they're perfect. They'll use them until they're about 3. If your child is around 2.5 or 3, I wouldn't get it because they won't be into them for that long. They're made REALLY well.

They are well made. We have the school bus, two trains, a farm set (not an actual barn) and a whole slew of people and animals. My son loves them. I will always love the old little people, the small ones we all grew up with. However, I also, will be picking some up for Christmas (I was thinking the airplane or the fire engine). Prices vary, but I've always assumed Amazon was a good place to save.
EDIT:
I just remember something I read in a magazine (or maybe saw on TV). They're making (or have already made) new Little People who bend at the waist to fit into the new cars that they've made. Which means the original little people will not work with the new vehicles and the new little people will not work with the old vehicles. I'm assuming they're hoping you go out and buy a bunch of each!

I haven't gotten the pirate ship or the airplane, but Fisher Price Little People are very good quality. When my little brother was a baby, Little People were his favorite toy. The people are about an inch and a half tall and they even have names! They sing a little theme song that goes something like 'Little People are you friends', or something like that. They are very cute for little ones and are made well. They do not have the lead paint like those companies and are great gift ideas. The certain one that my brother had was pretty large, and durable too (he was a wild one, and still is). I think you should purchase it, it has wonderful quality...Good Luck.

my three kids ( 1-4) have the garage the house and the farm, and were looking into getting them more. the poeple are the size of a toddlers hand, and i think there grate. the first thing i bought was the whole farm set for my oldest when he was 1 and he's now 4 and the others play with it. it's lasted 4 years and i'm sure it will last another 4 if not more. the toys are easy to wash and make grate bath toys( the people and animals etc) they take batteries but they don't kill the batteries that fast. as my kids are different ages they find there own ways to play with it i but i definetly think this is a good buy.

They are nice toys (as long as they haven't been recalled), but my daughter doesn't seem that into those kinds of things. She has the farm, the amusement park, the school bus, and the car with the mom and baby. They seem to be made well, minus the lead paint anyway, and they are decent size. I like them, and they would be a great gift idea! Oh yeah, the 'people' are decent size too, maybe a few inches tall if I remember correctly - a lot bigger than the 'little people' we had growing up!

I have never known a child not to like them. The "people" are generally about 2 inches tall. I've been looking at the alphabet zoo myself. They are a little more expensive than some of the other sets, but are durable and long lasting fun

Little People are very popular, and pretty much always a good choice for a gift. My 16 month old can't get enough of them. The People are about 2" tall.

My daughter got the little people house one year for christmas and then the castle last year. THeya re still huge hits with her. The little people are little, but not little enough any child would get hurt. They are very well made and stand up to some pretty tough torture I must say. My little girl loves playing with them and also adds other smaller toys into the mix while playing with the house and castle.

Fisher Price Little People are one of the best toys ever invented. I loved mine. And pretty much everyone who ever had them played with them WAYYYYYY past the age when they were supposed to stop. They're just too much fun.
If you measure it by how quickly kids get tired of them and they get tossed aside, they are definitely worth the money -- unless you're one of these parents that overload your kid with an endless stream of new toys for every little occassion. (Something tells me, that's not you. And good! You'll be doing a lot of good for your kids in the long run!)
They last FOREVER and take a lot of abuse. The little people, I mean. LOL.

i don't know about the plane or ship, but i love the little people! we got the pre-school set for my 4 year old last christmas... it's the only christmas present she still plays with! (most of the rest have been lost or broken) it came with 10 little people all holding numbers, so we know if any of them are missing! they are about two inches high. it also has a musical classroom, and a playground that attaches to it. it has several learning centers. colors, patterns, numbers, music! it is wonderful! we also have a little people dvd. it talks about discovering different things, like numbers, music, shapes, sizes, and colors. we watch it all the time. well worth it!
