Dental and medical care are not cheap really anywhere. Part of the problem is the sheer cost of the equipment and materials that they must use. Those companies can pretty much charge what they like, and there's not a lot any dentist or doctor can do about it except pay. Part of the reason the medical/dental supply companies and dentists/doctors charge so much is because the insurance they have to carry is so high. Production and development costs are also high, because people want a decent wage, and producing the medicine and materials has to be done in very strict environments- none of which is inexpensive to maintain. And the doctor/dentist spent a great deal or time and money to obtain their expertise, and probably have a great deal of personal debt to pay back. It's all a shame, I agree. However, to be fair, toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss and flouride rinses are all fairly inexpensive to buy. And they will prevent most major dental problems if you do, so you won't have to pay the high costs for major repairs. Like most things in life, prevention is much cheaper than the cure. Oil and filters for your car are a lot cheaper than a new engine will be, for instance. But to address the problem of low income and dental care- you can always try to find a dental school nearby. Dental students must practice on live people before they can have a liscence. They may not be the most experienced, but they are safe and supervised by those with the experience. They are usually more sympathetic as well, and you can take advantage of cutting edge dental practice at a fraction of the cost. And some dentists are willing to work with you for payment for big repair bills. So while it may not be so easy to accomplish, a low income is still not a good justification for poor oral health. And with a bit of preventative care, the cost of dentures won't be a worry. You can buy a lot of floss and toothbrushes for that price.

My teeth are horrible becuase it just costs to much. I had 2 cheap fillings, and two teeth out. The charged me £90! That is alot of money for me! I dont know how they justify it. I think dentistry should be free on the NHS.

Usually there is a State run clinic with a dental department attached to it for lower income patients.
Will cost you a fraction of a private consultation.
Find out from the municipality where the clinic is

People in low income get help with dental costs.
If you are student, pregnant, unnemployed, suffering certain medical conditions or over 60, dental treatment is free (in the UK).

The key is to have dental insurance. And to have regular visits and take care of your teeth so you don't have to be in that situation.
