Take advice from someone who suffered with constant anxiety for years.

I suffered for years with anxiety disorder. Every day I worried about stupid things. I knew rationally that these things were not worth worrying about. Yet, I worried about them anyway.

The only thing that worked for me was when I began adding a daily dose of fish oil to my diet. There are a lot of books out on this now. Ever heard of the Zone Diet? The doctor who wrote that book, explains in detail why omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oil are so important for your body, brain & nervous system. He's got other books out that explain it better. Check out "The Anti-Inflammation Zone". Other authors have written about it also.

Anyway, after reading up on the science behind the omega3 oils, I decided to try it. What do you know? This stuff worked like a charm for me. After about 2 weeks I could feel a real difference. After a number of months, my daily anxiety was completely gone. Completely! History! Finito! Not only that but I could think and focus my attention more clearly. Check it out.

I can certainly relate to your problem. I still have issues with Anxiety myself and like you, I don't want drugs to be my solution. There are some self help things that you can do.....
deep breathing exercises, meditation or yoga, warm baths before bed, etc. There is also a new herbal supplement on the market called "Relaxane" ( found at Walgreen's) that is supposed to have a good calming affect with out the drugs. I am going to try this myself. Try thinking about what it is in your life that is causing your anxiety....you may be able to control the situation yourself by separating yourself from a situation or even certain people who may be causing you stress.I have learned that above all, I am in control of my own thoughts and actions and and have refused to let anxiety control my life. Mind over body can be a powerful thing when you take control. Good luck to you and I hope you can conquer it!

Good work not wanting to drug yourself, definately stay away from any medication.

I've suffered for many years and have overcome it at about 80%

First step: Do breathing exercises, breath out for longer than you breath in...When you do it forget about EVERYTHING let EVERYTHING go don't fear anything focus on not thinking so just think of a cloud and if another thought pops up, that's ok, it happens when you're relaxing but gently go back to breathing.

Second step: Now that your mind is more calm you can think a little bit more rationally. Search up the web for CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) if you have an issue that needs challenging.

Ask yourself questions such as, what's the worst that could happen?
Is me worrying about this going to change the situation?

Don't be hard on yourself, you hae done this for ages and it's a habit, so your mind thinks it is ok to be stressed but slowly every day dedicate as much time as you can to meditating and if it's a particular issue challenge its irrationality with cbt.

Accept that everyone gets stressed from time to time and it can b a good thing if you're in danger
Let go of bad thoughts, ignore them after you have challenged them because it's your habit trying to bring it back.

best of luck, i understand.

well I am not sure when your anxiety is bothering you like what particular situations or things trigger it but my suggestion (and it will work) is to basically do the oppostive that your anxiety is telling you to do. Remember anxiety is jsut a feeling it literally cannot hurt you, we all have feelings soemtiems we don't like having, eg. sitting in a classroom or board meeting bored to tears with the absolute sudden urge to run out of there cause the boredom is killing us but we don't and we are fine. Anxiety is just a feeling it doesn't do anything to to you but makes you think it's dangerous. Do everything you should and want to do and do this in baby steps of course and each week try to put yourself out of your comfort zone, get out there hang out with friends, do those things that make you feel uneasy and eventually you will build up confidence and reconditon yourself to not feel anxiety anymore and if you still feel anxiety just remember it wont' and can't hurt you, you only give it power when you give in to it. Goodluck. Try thinking positive too that helps. I know all of this is easier said then done but it will work in time and you'll feel good about yourself when you have overcome it. Also try to think of something to look forward too like a way to reward yourself after you have done something you didn't wnat to do (something anxiety inducing) and maybe reward yourself later on with some treat or a good book or bath, or a new item of clothing whatever floats your boat. Goodluck.

Try talk therapy, so you might get to the source of your anxiety issues... therapy does work when we WORK it... it takes time, and effort for change, hon.

And if you need to take drugs for anxiety on a temporary basis, while you are working this out, you won't become an "addict" -- and you won't feel drugged up, IF you find a doctor to work with you.

Medications work differently on each individual; therefore, sometimes it takes trying a few before we find something which helps.

I have been on and off medications for years -- i see the doctor for help when i feel i need it... i have not taken meds for years on end -- my body, my choice.

Anxiety can be extremely hard to deal with in your life, from personal experience, i have found people may not understand the depth to which it can affect you.

The main thing is, you DON'T have to suffer... Seeing a doctor isn't just about medication. That isn't an option for everybody and by itself won't address the issue anyway

You need to find ways to deal with your anxiety. The best way to do this is to talk to someone and find tools that will work to address your issues. Go see your doctor, they will be able to refer you to someone and you'll be able to sort it out - this will make you life so much easier trust me. Anxiety can consume you, it can affect every single thing you do its a horrible feeling....

Good luck
