i have just caught my nephew SMOKING what should I do?

Don't tell the dad. Part of your job as an uncle is to be cool. Tell him smoking is nasty and maybe have him watch a couple documentaries about these money hungry corporations that sell this poison. "Thank You For Smoking" is pretty good to, It's a movie but it still makes the point. Let him know next time he gets caught with one of those cancer sticks, YOU'RE whooping his a**, And the next time after that you WILL tell dad. sniff him out when you see him too, and let him you know you will be doing so, and remind him that what makes you cool is going against the grain. Before talking to your brother, talk to your nephew first. There might be a reason why he smoked - family problems, stress in school, peer pressure, curiosity. It could be one or more of these things. A father in a "woophing mode" will only put your nephew's back up and you wont get a straight answer out of him let alone convey to him how bad smoking is.

Playing good or bad uncle will depend on how good your relationship is with your nephew. If you are close - good uncle will do. If you are not be bad uncle because seeing you angry will scare him into listening.

Try not to break out the health diagrams but talk to him heart to heart. Good luck!

Explain to him that you know what he is doing and that it is bad for him. Not only that you can tell him what i tell my kids...
1. its not good for your health.
2. it makes your clothes and hair smell

5. once you start its hard to stop
tell him that you wont tell your brother but that you are watching him and if you think he may be smoking again you will inform his dad.
