Medicare cancelled the payment of part b for my aunt and she now has to pay it out of her meager social security check.

How come?

Everyone has to pay for Part B unless they also qualify for medicaid. The premium for next year is about $96 per month. She might need to get a job.

I think you mean medicaid. Was medicaid paying her part B? Medicaid makes mistakes. Contact her worker and inquire. They may just need income verification. Part B is usually taken from her social security benefit. Another option is going with a Medicare HMO-she would probably get more benefits for less out of her pocket. But this is a very individual choice and is determined by her health and financial needs. Contact (800)MEDICARE-they can walk you through that process or send you literature that can help. You can also check out the medicare website-there is alot of info and contact phone numbers there:

She has been paying it out of her social security check all along. The checks she gets are her SS benefit less the Part B premium. I don't know why they canceled part B, but her check should now be larger by the amount of the premium.
