I had three out-of-body experiences as a teen-ager (very different from dreams, believe me) - the last one absolutely terrifying - so yes, I can say with absolute 100% certainty that we have an existence outside and beyond our physical bodies.
Is it a soul, a spirit or something else? To me it is best described as an extreme heightened state of consciousness - where you are still separate and distinctly you, but now also totally and completely one with your surroundings. Hard to describe, impossible to ignore.
Yes we will know when we are dead.

yes they do the bible says absence of the body and in the presence of the lord you see when we die are spirit goes to two places if were covered by the blood of Jesus and we'll going to heaven we go to Abraham's bosom and if we are not coverd by jesus's blood we go to hell these two places are the waiting places till the end of the world then all the people in Abraham's bosom go to heaven and those who are in hell will be cast into the lake of fire

the word says that when you die you go to sleep.......... when you wake up you are in heaven........ time has no relevance in the spirit world, so you could be asleep a long time but you will not notice it........... so when you wake up u will be at the foot of Jesus or before the throne being judged
