And should she stop wearing it because she is wearing a symbol of Muslim woman's opression.

This question is for all those that think Muslim women are oppressed if they wear a (hijab) headscarf.
Or that they shouldn't wear it even if they want because it is a symbol of man's control over women.
Or that Muslim women in the west shouldn't wear it because 'When in Rome'

I've never understood the problem with Muslim women wearing headscarves.

Some Orthodox Jewish women wear headcoverings at all times, a few Christian groups do too. Even more wear some sort of head covering while in their synagogue or church.

As long as the woman isn't being "forced" to wear it, I don't see a problem. I see a lot of Muslim women wearing them even though they're the only one in their family doing it. That tells me its their own personal choice to do so, and I think that's great if that's what they want to do.

Many old ladies wear a headscarf, perhaps because graying hair isn't such a pretty site, plus the way she is wearing it is completely different from how muslim women wear it.

Muslim women are completely wrapped into it, to cover everything but their face, and sometimes even that! The way the queen is wearing it is more of a fasion statement than anything else really.

I will answer shortly.

NO in simple terms the Queen does as she pleases.

If the weather is pleasant she wears no scarf or hat through obligation. I will be back with some links to further illustrate my point in 30 mins.

Back: 1st I would like to point it out it is the self righteous attitudes and statements made like this that add fuel to the fire.

2nd I would like to point out that a head scarf in no way compares to what you're talking about.

This is not in anyway offensive to any British person I can assure you(See link below)http://www.flickr.com/photos/gromol/1113327378/
Just a random picture of someone wearing accepted dresscode. No problem here at all.

This picture however is offensive.

Can you tell the difference?

Now can you understand why people have had enough. The Burka is a potential threat to security and people have used it for exactly this purpose, the guy trying to leave the country with a Burka and his sisters passport, because a large amount of explosives where found in his home....

Hijab is generally fine with everybody, Burka is not part of Islam and is offensive.

I think the difference is that there are times it is not a free choice for women under Islam. I think that in these situations it is oppressive. There was a post on here about a month ago from a 14 year old girl who said her parents were starting to make her wear the hijab and she didn't want this for herself. Some women have been beaten or even had acid thrown on them if they went out in areas under Sharia law without the head scarf. I think this is wrong. I think girls who wear thong underpants coming out their jeans look trashy but I think its their choice. I think I shouldn't have to wear a hajib because some man needs to become more mature and deal with his sexuality and respect for women. I think that should always be my choice. I think if you really believe in wearing the hajib or whatever because of your personal beliefs than you should. I don't think society should control how someone presents themselve or what they wear. I believe in the freedom to make a personal choice.

No it looks a lot more fashionable for our Queen to wear a scarf during winter than wear a beanie after a long haul flight knowing photographers would be taking pictures such as this.

Many religions have considered the showing of hair to be immodest, not just Islam. It wasn't that many years ago that Christians expected women to cover their heads, if only by wearing a hat. The Royals in England continue many traditions long after the rest of society has abandoned them. I suspect that the Queen is wearing a headcovering because of this.

She doesn't always wear one, and you know it. That's kind of a dishonest argument to use.

Lots of older women wear a headscarf in the fall and winter to protect their hair, and protect themselves from the elements. They usually take them off when they're inside, whether in the company of men or not.

Muslim women on the other hand are NEVER allowed to take off their head-covering in the presence of males, unless they're male relatives or children.

While I understand the need for modesty, the requirement of the hijab goes too far.
