I use the term Professional Behavior Modifier as a joke. I take extreme pridein my job. Even though I deal with those that society wants to forget about, I still feel that I am doing a service to my community, though ever time ppl see me in my uniform they look down at me why?

No i am not man enough to go on the road, so I cant be a wanna be cop. I like the fact that I dont get shot at. If I am gonna die I will get beat to death, stabbed, thrown over the top tier to my death or strangled. I am good with that and have made peace with God about that. Thanks for answering my question and I hope I cleared up that misconception.

You hit too close to home. You are doing a job they lack the skill and courage to do. Furthermore, you deal with all the scum they don't want to be reminded of.

Don't worry about the piss ants; those of us who know what you do also respect what you do.

I think we must be crazy too. Who would want to know that they might not come home any night of the week? If the fences ever fell down the public would find out real quick who the people are we deal with every day. While I work this Christmas and thanksgiving I'll ponder these thoughts as I look out and see 1500 inmates and only about 10 officers to cover my back.

I believe a lot of people have this attitude toward COs because they (the COs) chose an occupation where they spend their entire workday with the real misfits of society. A lot of folks just don't understand why Correction Officers chooose to deal with those that society wants to forget about. Some people just don't understand what it means to have a sense of duty or service.

Because many corrections officers condone behavior and abuses in prison that violate human rights. These include gang rape, torture, physical abuse, and living hell. Punishment beyond what the person was sentenced to.

And some of those who suffer may have not even committed an violent crime but rather some other felony such as fraud or drugs (though that is violent somewhat), or some crazy accident they were wrong for but should not be tortured for the rest of their life over.
