a ring of his that i wear on my necklace, i still have. i've left messages with him to come and get his property but he hasn't yet. could he be avoiding that because he eventually wants to worm his way back into the good graces with me or should i just pawn it and move forward?

If you want him back, give him room. Dear friends are rare to find, even though you both fight sometimes. if you really don't want him, find out from him if he wants the right returned. If you pawn it, you are creating more room for conflict and he'll have more reason to be in your face. Moreso, you'll appear cheap.
