It happens heaps, but just happened now when I got woken up from a nap on the couch, I saw a spider, looked more like a weird oval shaped animal with lots of legs - and although I can tell now that it didn't even look like something that existed, I was pointing at it showing my husband saying what the hell is that... he's now saying that it happens heaps (I wake him up to say there is spiders in the bed . ... when of course there is not)

I'm a 28 year old women, healthy, sleeps okay (as good as you can with 2 young children) and I don't know what the go is... it's been happening for years - I would even say my whole life - has anyone had this, knows anyone thats had this, or has an idea why I see spiders...

In real life i"m not even that scared of spiders - only like normal people don't like them and kill them... but I'm not freaked out by it

My husband doesn't care when i wake him up in the middle of the night, but it just happened now - I fell asleep on the couch early like 7:30pm and he woke me up when my phone rang at 8:30 so he was standing right above me when I'm pointing at this "spider" and he's ignoring me and handing me the phone, I'm like... theres a huge spider what the hell is it... he thinks I'm crazy...

I'm not worried about anything, not all the time for it to be re-occuring.... its so weird...

Seeing Spiders At Night

Don't worry you're definitely not alone.... check out

If that doesn't work just look for a forum called 'Talk about sleep' There is a 4 page discussion on there called 'Seeing spiders or clusters when I wake up'

I've just found it myself after googling to find answers for myself. The forum doesn't answer the problem or give a solution but its reasurring to read of tons of other people having the same experience.
My most recent one was last night, Its nearly always giant spiders that drop from the ceiling down to my face, but last night was different, it was what can only be described as a LARGE metal frame that filled up the whole space in my room above my head, it had strange dimensions and was spinning rather than dropping on me! I preferred this to spiders as I hate spiders!!!! I also once saw a pink flourescent shape which was the exact same image as the heart chakra (that I later discovered) though I happened to be doing 'third eye exercises that evening'

I've only just looked up this oddity this evening because I've been able to see and hear spirits from a young age, our house has always been 'active' and I even have the spirits voices taped on night vision camcorder! a man and a young boy. Their voices always wake me and I can be seen on tape sitting up in bed and looking around the dark for whatever woke me!

This is why I've never thought much about the spider issue, but the spider hallucinations might be a different kettle of fish altogether (or maybe its all one in the same! I know not) but check out that forum listed above. Its great to hear that we're not alone with the giant spider infestations!!!

Good luck xxxxx

I sometimes see things that look like spiders too when I first wake up or stir in the middle of the night. And no, you are not schizophrenic.

Your conscious brain hasn't yet taken over from your unconscious brain in making the transition from a sleep or dream state to a waking state.

It could be you are overly tired or need more restful sleep. You may be sleep deprived and your unconscious brain is getting stuck in a sleep mode, not wanting to relenquish to the waking state.

If you are sleeping a good number of hours per night and still seeing these, consider going to a sleep therapist, get a better bed, or talk to your doctor about prescription medication to help you sleep. Over the counter of course you can try Valerian Root which is an herbal to help induce sleep. Around our house where we have occasional allergies, we also use Benedryl (OTC) which some hospitals do use as a sleep aid.

The spiders I see are usually black and white with lots of spindley legs that writhe. I find that as I stare at them on the ceiling in disbelief, they writhe about until they finally disappear and my conscious brain is fully awake. It is very disconcerting to see these though and kind of scarey. I share your delimna but fortunately, I don't see them often.

Better quality or more quantity of sleep is your answer I believe.

It looks llike your dream is a recurring symbol of a worry that you have been carrying about for years. The only way your subconscious can draw attention to this fact is to show the worry as a persistent symbol...the spider or spider like creature. Solve what the worry is and do something about it and the dream will go.

How big was the spider?

It always happen?

Sorry to tell you this. But, I think I love your story.

Maybe you can make a novel. And this isn't an insultment.

Maybe your husband is sleppy and he didn't care about the spider?

This is just a theory but I think there might be some deformity in your retina.

The retina is the back of the eye where the cells that transmit light as nerve impulses to your brain are located. There are two types, rods and cones. Cones perceive color while rods perceive light levels and work better in dim light. The retina is also filled with a labyrinth of blood vessels as unique as any fingerprint.

My theory is that for some reason, while you sleep certain blood vessels constrict warping the surface of your retina. This causes certain clusters of rod cells to temporarily transmit false information, vein shaped illusions Since veins, arteries and blood vessels tent to have a squiggly radial appearance (look at some pictures of them sometime) you perceive them as dark spider-like shapes.
