There is lack of a strong middle class in Mexico which is why if you are rich there, it can be great. But if you are poor (as are most), you want a better life and will risk life and limb to get to a better country. But is it our obligation in the U.S. to give whoever comes to us illegally from Mexico, a better way of life when they broke our laws to get here? Why aren't we working more with Mexico to help them improve their own country so their people won't feel it necessary to break the laws to get here? Instead we focus on the individuals or the by-product of a troubled economy and government, versus treating the problem at it's source. Many Mexicans feel we should have no borders, that we are "all Americans" and the U.S. should just share it's bounty freely with it's neighbors. Do we have that obligation? We are so generous to the rest of the world but do we owe so much to Mexico as a neighbor, we take our own country down and disadvantage our own legal citizens?

Heavens yes. Given the choice.. would you want to go to jail in Mexico or in the United States. The answer for those who don't know is.. the Untied States.
I cannot prove it at this point, but it is critical to understand the Border Patrol is telling us they are catching about one in ten of the people crossing the Mexican Borders. Usually, the people crossing the borders cannot cross in the standard ways so they tend to be criminals and or terrorists.
Criminals and terrorists have the most money of all who cross our borders. Those crumb bums can afford the *very best guides* (coyotes) to get over the border and while no one knows, I am thinking they probably make it rather easily.
Congress, by the way, is complaining that the more they spend, the more the border needs. The real meaning of that is, there was a huge amount of criminal activity on the border, and as they look, and discover, they have to spend more money. NONE... none of it would have happened if they had done what was required and secured our identifications. But they did not secure our I.D.s, and the cost will be in the trillions over the coming years to fix the mess those idiots made.
A last point. The Mexican Government has used trickle down economics from the beginning. At some point, the money got down to the big land owners like Fox, and didn't go any further. The corruption is horrendous in Mexico, and until Mexico is forced to deal with its people, it is going to continue as it is today.
Mr. Bush could stop the rush to the border by almost all the Mexicans. He could say we will not provide amnesty and that would help a very good deal. Do we know.. one and all.. what we think of Mr. Bush for allowing this to continue?

There are ways to help the poor in Mexico without costing us a much at all. For instance we could demand our country put sanctions on Mexico until they treat their people better. We could demand NAFTA is rescinded seeing it helped in a big way to cause this migration. It may cost us a small bit more for gas, food and other articles but the savings in tax dollars would outweigh it. We would also be helping their people there at the same time by their government taking care of them. Making sure they receive a fair pay for a days work etc. Something that simple would benefit both countries and their people. Will it ever happen? I doubt it because many business's would lose money and they seem to be the ones who hold this debate in their palms. For instance...Why, when Bush met with Mexico and Canada at the last summit on NAFTA, were American business's representatives there but there wasn't anyone there to represent the people of these countries? Why were these business reps even allowed in on talks that concern our countries? Do they have some special privilege concerning our welfare that they get invited but a citizen can't attend? I highly suspect deals were worked out for these companies that definitely DON'T benefit the citizens.

No, we do not owe Mexico anything at all. Neither is it our responsibility to fix its problems. How can it be?
If it becomes our obligation to govern Mexico (which is what it would take) where will that take us? We would then need to fix the problems of the next country and the next.
Before long we would be pressured to solve the problems of the entire world and frankly that isn't even remotely possible.

Unfortunately yes, we are the dumping ground for Mexicans. If you doubt it take a look at our desert land that they have destroyed with their trash and raw sewage that fills the land. We owe Mexico nothing but to give them back their citizens to take care of themselves. And no, we will not be taken down by the illegals in this nation, we shall overcome!
