It depends a lot on who is telling it and how he or she is telling it. It also depends on what you consider to be a racist joke.

I'm part Polish and have on occasion told Polish jokes. I can laugh at myself, and I know there is nothing inferior about Polish people. If a black person wants to tell a mildly black racist joke and tells it in a way that is not hateful or demeaning I would probably laugh with him or her. I would not laugh if the joke was obviously meant to tear this racial group down.

I remember one time being in a group where a man (who was not excessively bright) was telling Polish jokes, but he was not in the slightest telling them in a loving way. He happened to have an Irish name. I didn't laugh and I didn't stick around any longer than I had to. I don't think anything I could or would have done would have gotten the message across to him. (He had no idea I was part Polish, by the way, and I didn't tell him.)

Many people tell ethnic jokes that are really funny and are not offensive to a person with a sense of humor. In Texas we get around that by telling Aggie jokes.

it somewhat is perplexing to assert cuz have heard some racist jokes that i be responsive to I shouldn't laugh at yet locate humorous. So in those situations i might laugh yet say " this is so incorrect" and make an apology for giggling. inspite of the undeniable fact that it somewhat is offensive and not humorous i'm going to tell the guy that it substitute into an ignorant remark.

I try to distinguish if the person only tells a joke that is racist, or if he or she IS racist.

I just give them a dirty look. its hard to explain but the look says 'thats not cool man, your an asshole'
and if it's a really horrible one i'll resort to telling them to go **** themselves and get a life.
