Yes. It makes a great short portrait lens on a crop frame body. But most people would find its 75mm equivalent to be a little confining as a normal lens.

All things being equal, I would say yes.
The image sharpness, color and contrast are way better. The fast aperture is also a great asset to have if you shoot a lot of indoor, low light sports or parties.
