My first question is, "Is God all knowing?"
- of course you will say "yes"

now read Isaiah 44:8

Isaiah 44:8 (New King James Version)
"Do not fear, nor be afraid;
Have I not told you from that time, and declared it?
You are My witnesses.
Is there a God besides Me?
Indeed there is no other Rock;
I know not one.’”

God says that He knows not of any other God. Now either there are no other Gods out there, or there is, and God just is not knowledgeable of them.

please help me understand what i am missing here. I prayed and i prayed about it but the God just hasnt given me the understanding of it yet. Please if you have the understanding tell me what Isaiah 44:8 means. I thought LDS churches taught there is more than one God.

drshorty - you might want to check your own belief again, because Mormons believe that God the Father is one god, God the Son is another, and God the Spirit is a Third. And to add to that there are many many countless others in other universes. (according to Mormons that is.)

jathgnos - this verse is saying that there are no other God's that God knows of. Whether they are to be worshiped are not, they are not there to be known.

JD - thanks for your answer but i disagree with your answer.
God (Elohim) is God the Father" - Elohim is the plural tense of El which is God. So that means that Elohim cannot be just God the Father because that would be singular. But Elohim is used 2,600 times out of the 2,800 times "God" appears in the bible.

"is that there is no other God that they should be worshiping, except Him. " - I disagree with this simply because "except Him" is not phrased in the scripture. There is no other God for them to be worshiping because there is no other God v.6.

"Now you must understand that how Jehovah (Jesus Christ) handled the whole worshiping one God in the Old Testament is very different once Jesus Christ is born and sets up His church on the earth." - I disagree, no where in the NT will you find that God says it is ok to worship more than one god. Show me where the rules change.

jathgnos - Im sorry but that logic is incorrect.
"is there any other husband besides me to my wife."
what would be correct is
"Is there any other husband besides me"
the verse does not say "Is there a God besides Me for you?" it says "Is there a God besides Me?"
And you cant say that the "for you" is implied because when you read the chapter in context we see that God is not addressing any person here but making a statement for whomever to hear.

Thats as plain as it can be. You cant get around that.

jathgnos - "But yet there are multiple verses with gods as plural being used"
-Show me where and in which versions. And we will take a look at the Greek and Hebrew to see what exactly God was trying to say. The bible claims there to be a 3 person in 1 God. I already mentioned this above, but i will say it again. The Hebrew word Elohim is plural for El which is "God". One thing to take into consideration with the use of the word Elohim is along with it the verb tense is singular. Now either the writers of the bible didnt understand that plural subjects need plural verbs or they knew exactly what they were saying and the message behind it. I encourage you to look into the Greek and Hebrew yourself and view this words used. I think you will be surprised to find the claim to the trinity in the original manuscripts.

"it could be a lot more clear such as if the Bible was to be completely void of any other mention of other gods"
what are you talking about? the bible is void of other gods.

The Bible says that you will understand Who God is when Jesus reveals it to you. In this particular passage God cannot cannot find another God simply because there is no other God (deauteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 45:5;14; God is One and there is no Other God and His Name is Jesus. God was manifested or made known in the flesh. He made Himself a body of flesh because Spirit cannot die and He needed to die for the sins of the world (Hebrews 9:22; Acts 2:38; 1 Timothy 3:16; John 4:24-God did not send anyone else to die for our sins; Isaiah says God the Father became manifested to the world through a body (1 Timothy; Matthew 1:20-21; John 1:1,14) and Colossians 1:14,15,19,22; ch. 2:9. So Peter declared what we must do in order to be saved and make it to Heaven. Acts 2:38!!! This was revealed to him in Matthew 16. And thus given the keys he unlocked the door in Acts 1-2. God is all knowing (1 John 3:20; I Corinthians. 4:5;John 21:17; John 2:24-25. So since God knows all things and the hearts of man. Those that seek Him with all their heart will find Him. He reaches out to love those who seek Him. He will come down and reveal to those to Whom He chooses.

Mormons worship one God. This could easily be interpreted as there is no other God to be worshiped (as God) besides the Father. So while they might believe that there are other gods, they do not worship them as their God.

Edit:
I disagree, it is saying is there any other God beside me? I could likewise say is there any other husband besides me to my wife and she had better say no. Or I could ask my child if she has any other father besides me and likewise the answer would be no.

It is all in the interpretation.

Edit 2:
But yet there are multiple verses with gods as plural being used, which either means either the KJV1611 was mistranslated, God is lying, or one of our interpretations is wrong. Why would there be a plurality of gods in the Bible in several verses if God then says there is absolutely no other gods? I mean, it could be a lot more clear such as if the Bible was to be completely void of any other mention of other gods. How do you get around that?

I think that's kinda God's point. He's omniscient, and yet He doesn't know of any other gods, therefore; there mustn't be any.

lol to that last part, some will tell you there are, some will stick with one. Others go back and forth between one and many.

The Mormons do not read the Bible so how would they understand it? They believe the Bible is not really good for reproof and doctrine as it says it is. They believe since it was written by so many different people that it is confused and corrupt. Since the author of the Book of Mormon was one man, they believe it was not corrupt--they also believe the author Joseph Smith was actually only translating something that was written by imaginary people several thousand years ago. The videos that anxierhui posted really do show the true beliefs that Mormons don't want the outsiders to know about. My grandpa was RLDS...they believe some of the same things the Mormons do...but he actually told the stories about them like they were only stories...and the LDS really do have the magic underwear...they used to persecute their followers who wanted out.

Actually...there is an interesting video which was banned by the LDS.

An even more interesting documentary which caused some Mormons to leave their faith is the following video:

This stuff is not just propaganda, because I have former Mormon relatives who have told me the same things; they had problems with it not being consistent with the Holy Bible or history.

there should be no confusion...if God says there is no other, but someone says there is, who is right? Moroni was Satan or one of his demons...
"And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve." 2 corinthians 11:14-15

I'm sorry you think that we don't worship one God, because we most certainly do. To learn more about our basic beliefs, please see this website: www.mormon.org.
