I need some advice on how to handle a mean, manipulative, and devious co-worker. I have been w/ this agency for 1 year. My first day on the job was horrible. I was informed by my co-worker that she is a type A personality, doesn't do filing, thought that another person was a better choice for the position & I didn't deserve it. She has been employed w/ the agency for 5 mts., still on probation. No one in our dept has been trainedfor this position, incl the lead/supervisor, so we are the only people who know how to do our job. My co-worker is favored by my Supervisor, who has been with the agency for 5 months& my Lead. She is always late, takes excessive leave, dumps work on me, talks on her cell and comes & goes as she pleases, etc. She has the supervisor's ear so most all co-workers kiss her a**. She's demanding, pushy, and piles the work on me. I have tried to resolve this w/ the supervisor and it turned against me. My super. hardly speaks w/ me & if I go to the Union I'm blacklis

One time we had a worker like this where i work. 15 of us got together and went to human resources at one time...hey 15 people can't be wrong. If you can't, get people together, and it is just you, come up with a game plan, to be just as devious...if this job is that important to you. If it is'nt that important, tell them to take the job and shove it, you don't need the stress.

For some weird reason, company seems always backing up their managers before they back up their employees. As someone mentioned, update your resume and go somewhere else. It's not worth it to be there because they will not fire the manager and if you have to work under her, you won't be happy even if she says she'll change.

You'll be miserable and she will find any which way to kick you out. Trust me, it happened to me and I was so glad that I never have to see those bitches and those miserable people anymore. I'm so happy to work for 2 wonderful guys. They're fun, great sense of humor and as long as I do my job, they support me 100%.

About your co-worker, seems like we have one of those in almost every company. An incompetent and in-secured manager always needs one of those people to make her feels good about herself. Honestly, you don't want to be surrounded with snakes. That's one of thousand reasons why I hate to work for a woman. Most of male managers I worked for never gave me any problems but almost 95% of women bosses are bitches.

Either way, you're already on the black list. Do yourself a favor, there's no job in the world that's worth the hassel of dealing with these types of people. Why stress yourself out?

Make sure that there are people who are around who can back you up. Record what she says does to you in a diary and if other people are around get them to do it as well. If you can get enough evidence and people to do it as well if something ever happens then you have the evidence to back it up. Stick to the facts and make sure there are dates and times (if you ever need to get/take legal advice you have what you need and it is acceptable to the police). Make an anonomyous report to the union if you can also - everytime that she does something that goes against your/her position description or the companies rules/regulations and policies. You should have got a copy when you were hired. If not ask your manager for one and just say that you want to do the best job possible - or something that doesn't make you sound like you are going against someone else who deserves it!

wow, this is a hard situation. if i was you, i'd just try to kill her with kindness and try to find a way to get her to eventually slip up and hang herself.

this might be a bit extreme, but you could try taping a conversation with her when she's being particularly horrible and show it to your boss. that way they can't pretend it's not happening.

if it seems totally hopeless, find a new job. money isn't everything if you're miserable for 40+ hours a week. =( hope things work out for you. i've been in a similar situation and it really is frustrating when you're doing everything right and you're still made out to be the bad guy.

Start forwarding your resume to other companies that will appreciate you, don't think you will get any peace in current enviroment, in the meanwhile go about your work with your best attitude and determination.

I'm sorry you're afraid to go to your union because that is what the union is for. I think it's definitely time to start looking for another job.

I'd be out of there probably without giving them a notice or hint of any kind.

File an informal grievance with your union and ask to work with your employee relations department. Their role is to ensure employees are happy.
