This is a VERY tough one--this question exposes evidence of derailed theology in some congregations. Y'shua in the flesh was sent to fulfill the Code of Moshe and Yashar-El, from birth on (I calculate) 15 Tishri 3760 to crucifixion (in the ultimate fulfillment of Exodus 12) on (I calculate) 14 Aviv 3793. One task that got barrages from the politically correct was the 9 Aviv 3793 rumble in the Outer Court, in which he called the lie of the merchants:

"Is it not written, 'My House shall be a House of Prayer for all nations'!? But as for you, ye have made it a den of thieves!!!"

Likewise, Y'shua took no small issue with the Sanhedrin's corruption of the Code, in which the Mishnah dictated actions far from the spirit of the Torah. These don't read at all consistent with a motherly type, rather, consistent with an officer who knows his duties.

I am astounded at how far some are fallen from the Truth in spirit (a process perhaps accelerated due to contamination of the Universities and Seminaries on account of some 150 years of Communism?), a deviation which to me is intolerable.

Mmm. I think your question should be reworded.

"Why do some churches sometimes promote..."

You might not be getting the whole message that these churches are teaching.

Most churhes i have observed promote "the light and the salt".

What is not feminine about strong and commanding? What is so not masculine about tree hugging?

Before you ask these kinds of questions, maybe you should evaluate what you know, how you know it, and how you percieve things. be open, observant, and understanding. you'll probably be able to answer your own questions and also have a better understanding of Jesus and thus how people teach Jesus' teachings then.

I don't really see that Jesus is exactly portrayed as a girly girl, but I do remember a priest once saying that Jesus, similar to an angel, etc., is really not meant to be defined by strictly human labels of feminine, masculine, etc. Those are terms we use to describe each other - they don't work on divinities. Also, many of His teachings involve traits that I think many men associate with more feminine (but not by any means inferior) traits; sensitive, understanding, healing, nurturing, teaching, forgiving, patient, kind...Jesus IS a commanding and strong figure, but a divine figure (multiple nations wouldn't pray to a pansy). He's not a macho man. And come on now, do you really want to see him as you would Darth Vader or Indiana Jones or Superman...or James Bond?

Because in the New Testament (as well as the Old Testament), Jesus was a soft spoken, long haired, sandal wearing, non-violent preacher who asked his faithful to be nice to people, to be forgiving, and to protect the weak. He hung out with the diseased, the hopeless, the meek and the destitute. His company included prostitutes, vagrants, military deserters and activists.

If that's not the conservative definition of a soft, feminine, tree hugging hippie, I don't know what is.

Because they do not want you to think of Jesus as a sexual being...ie..a Man.
Therefore by promoting the fem side/aka motherly interpretation you would be less likely to see him as a human, male, sexual being.
IE: As a fatherly or brotherly type person you can trust.

EDITED: I am horrified that anyone would think I meant any disrespect or took my answer in a perverted way.
I am NOT trying to be rude or mean. I am stating an opinion, mine. I'm also not saying anyone wants to have sex with Jesus! How disgusting that anyone would even think that's what I mean!!!That is the "dirt" in your mind if you thought that way, not in my mind.

A cynic might say it's a marketing ploy. A realist would say it's a marketing ploy as it's easier to sell a soft cuddly loving, caring Jesus as your preferred brand of salvation over a domineering table crashing man of action.

I don't recall Jesus going around hugging trees. In fact, he was rather rough on a fig tree.

yeah right. Jesus was a tree hugger. that's why when he came upon a fig tree that wasn't fruiting he used his miraculous powers to kill it instead of using those powers to make it flower and fruit.
