I mean, lets face it. Cats have been known to do some pretty smart things themselves.

I have heard of some cases of cats allerting their owners to house fires and the people were able to make it out safely. Apparently, they were able to smell the smoke before the people did.

My cat Tuffy did this once.

I had just moved into an apartment and there was a knock on my door "POLICE!" Opened up and two officers were standing there. They said that someone had called 911 from my number but hadn't said anything. Went to my phone which was sitting on a window sill because I hadn't set up my furniture yet. And next to it, Tuffy my cat. My phone had one of those "Emergency" buttons that you'd press to dial 911 and a speakerphone. He must have stepped on it when he jumped up the window sill! Now if he'd actually have done that in a true emergency - not so sure ;)
