It can begin as early as three and a half months. Some signs are increased fussiness with gumming objects ie... fist, cloth items, plastic keys, whatever makes them feel better. Other signs can be increased drooling and slight fever.

It depends on the baby. Some start getting teeth as early as three months and others still don't have any teeth when they reach their first birthday. However, after that, if a baby still has no teeth after a year, you should take him or her to a dentist to make sure everything's all right. I used to know someone whose son didn't have any teeth at the age of 15 months. It turned out his gums were so tough that the teeth couldn't cut through them. The dentist actually had to cut the gums open to allow the teeth to come in.

It varies, but my daughter got her first tooth at 4 months.
