It's possible, but I don't suggest it.
I did it for well over a year in the early 80s, at the end of my 20s. And I was a little guy, only around 135lbs back then! I built up to that amount over 10 years, I wasn't working and drank from the time I woke up until the time I passed out.
I had a liquor store that delivered 6 days a week, I rarely went out. I would order a bottle of schnapps and a liter or 1.75 liter of vodka daily.
DTs would wake me after 4-5 hours of sleep, I'd be sick and have to start drinking in order to stop throwing up.
I developed jaundice and Alcoholic hepatitis, among other things. I had to be hospitalized for a ten day detox. (My first detox.) I did return to drinking, but never came close to that amount again.
I finally got help for depression in 2001 and quit.

it's more than possible - i've seen someone drink 1.75 L bottles nightly for a period of over half a year or more. amazingly, it seemed to have very little effect on them medically, at least in terms of liver function ( they had wide panel blood tests done every few months for treatment for another condition ), and they consistently woke up with no hangover at all after the first month or so. they are the *only* person i've ever seen capable of doing that, however, so i suspect there is something strange with their metabolism or genetic makeup overall. there was a high incidence of alcoholism in their family, however, but almost all of them were what they call "high functioning alcoholics" - nearly indistinguishable from non-drinkers in terms of work productivity and the basics of day to day life. a very strange thing to witness ( it was always clear grain, non-mixed liquor, almost always gin, occasionally vodka, ranging from 80-97 proof, always taken straight - not to give it a positive appellation as such, but 'hardcore' comes to mind )

That seems a bit much, but yes, it is probably possible. Pretty disgusting though. That is an extreme, obviously, but people who drink all day, every day, build up incredible tolerance. I used to drink heavily, and I could easily have 20 in the course of a night's partying, maybe 7 hours, and still function. So it does not surprise me that very severe alcohilics could reach this amount, given that they will wake up and start, and then drink all day long. I am also a bartender by trade, so I have seen some things in my day... Sober five years now, though!

I think it's highly likely although I've never known anyone to do that consistently. Many times in the course of an evening I've killed a fifth of liquor by myself but definitely not everyday. And I'm HURTING the next day. I recently read that John Bonham, the drummer from Led Zeppelin, went for breakfast on his way to the studio one day, consumed four triple vodka-tonics then went to the studio and continued drinking heavily all day. Amazing. Then that night he chocked on his own vomit in his sleep. But yeah, for serious alcoholics I don't think a fifth a day is that hard.

nothing to explain or justify other than our tolerance just goes up and up ( well mine does) being a 140 pound 20 year old, i can easily consume 1.75L of liquor in a day. spaced out of course because drinking works weird
for me, if i drink too much too fast i become Un- drunk and have a headache that lasts for about 30 minutes. and if i find just the right median, i can usually stay drunk for about 15-20 minutes at most. then i have to drink more.
had over 30 shots and 5 beers one night, when i was 16 and i didnt have a tolerance. i remembered the whole thing but boy **** i was drunk as a skunk. no passing out. was totally fine the next day

it is possible.....the body develops tolerance and produces conditioned compensatory responses to counteract the effects of the alcohol. This compensatory response can be triggered by, for example, the environment in which the alcohol is consumed or the first drink.

That is 2 1/3 fifths!!
I guess maybe, someone out there could do it.
But your liver and kidneys couldn't handle that for long. Maybe a couple of weeks and your would be in serious trouble!

Why do YOU even drink 3 drinks a day? Most people would call that in itself excessive

They are either very large, or very stupid, have a strong liver, or are serious alcoholics.
Or maybe a combination of all of the above.
