This winter I'm taking over the planning of a family ski trip to Vermont. I want to ski Sugarbush and hopefully Mad River but am having trouble deciding which would be cheaper: renting a condo or staying in a hotel (4 people, 5 days, 4 nights). Any other suggestions or specific places to stay around that area?

Condos can be fun with a larger group because there is usually a large common area, but they can be expensive, and the checkout time can be early. Condos located off the mountain, vs slopeside, can be much less expensive. A good inn might be an alternative. I used to stay at the White Horse Inn, which is conveniently located near the Mount Ellen access road. The rates were reasonable, the owners were friendly, and it had a nice common room/games room. it's also convenient to many restaurants. See http://www.whitehorseinnvermont.com/ . The Sugarbush Inn is a great place to stay, but it's more expensive than other lodges. http://www.sugarbush.com/eatandstay/cm.asp?pn=sugarbushinn&pid=241&nid=44

There aren't a lot of chain hotels in the Waitsfield/Warren VT area, so staying in one of the condos in the valley isn't a bad idea. The smaller off-resort lodging places are mostly B&Bs. There are a bunch of ski-houses for rent in that area.

Here's the Ski Vermont Page for Sugarbush:

I can't say I've stayed in any of them as I used to live only an hour from both resorts and simply just drove home.

If you go in late January MRG tix are $3.50 on the last Tuesday in January. Sugarbush usually does $5 day on Christmas. Get a ski and stay package and use one of those days as the end or beginning and get an extra cheap day of skiing.

renting a condo vs a motel room has advantages in the food area. you can save cash by cooking your meals. in a motel room you might not even have a mini fridge to keep a few cans cool. you will have a living space to socilaize in. a motel room has 2 chairs and the beds. not much comfort after a while. how long will you stay in the room? are you going to bars and such also? if you plan on going, seeing, and doing, I'd rent the motel room and forget about it. think about what your group has in mind and go from there.

trip properties are regularly extra look after in that the home household projects team does not are available daily to "sparkling". and that they'd somewhat be much less costly than inns. The "prolonged stay" inns frequently have a refrigerator, range, and so on. maximum inns are fairly risk-free. yet trip abode condominium is a sturdy purchase interior the best section.
