Normally it is. However, if your TV is really small (26") you may not be able to tell the difference.

Yes there is a difference...480 lines of information UPSCALED to 1080 does not INCREASE the amount of detail, it just makes 480 FIT inside a 1080 picture...

So a true 1080 HD-DVD will have a whole 1080 Lines of info, while the 480 only has 480....

That's 600 more lines of information or detail....And you will see the difference.

Check it out side by side...I think Spiderman 3 has both
HD-DVD and Standard discs out...
And I'll bet most Stores like Circuit City and Best Buy have HD-DVD and 1080 Upscalers connected to HD TVs....
AND I'll bet they have BOTH Spidermans......
I'd get them to set it up so you can compare it....
(And those guys should already have it, if not they should have gone to SALES training)

Circuit City is really great in comparison sales...You Mosey thru their store and you see HDMI vs Component....1080 vs 720....

'Up scaling' is a New term to make you think it is true 1080p High Definition!
Whereas in real terms it's just Digitally enhanced and offers NO real quality change.
For example..It's Like using a Digital Zoom on a Compact Digital camera, The more you zoom in-the more the noise on the picture increases.
You may wish to hold back until a True Contender arrives on the Market(HD DVD/Blue-Ray Player combination). The Current LG-BH100 is Awful with loads of Flaws.

using a non hd inout on a true hd set will mess the set up badly. it stretches the image to fit as tech guy said.
