Bleeding gums are a sign of infection; you may have the early stage of gingivitis..it's all the plaque buildup.. I have this too. My dentist said regular and active flossing at least twice a day, with brushing between 2 and 3 times a day, working the bristles with a little bit of pressure on your gums in a circular motion will stop bleeding and soreness. And it works.

I went to the dentist a few months ago because my gums were bleeding all the time, new toothbrush or not (although that did happen). He told me the only reason my gums were bleeding was because I was in the early stages of gum disease, because not only did I not brush my gums while cleaning my teeth, but I also hated flossing. I bought those little flossing picks (they have them at Target for sure), and about a week after using those, my gums stopped bleeding. Your gums need to get tougher, which comes from flossing. If you already do floss, maybe you're not doing it correctly, or often enough, or going deep enough.

If your brushing the upper teeth angle the tooth brush 45 degree and brush downward in one direction. Do not go back and forth..one direction only. I know this takes much more time but this is how it should be done so the the gums are not being pushed up or poked. Same thing in the lower except brush upward. Don't forget to brush the occlusal surface or the bitting surface. I recomend the electric tooth brush such as Oral B Braun...it makes your life so much easier to brush plus I've noticed it cuts down the bleeding. Of course you still have to floss.

You are either brushing too hard or you have a "hard" bristle toothbrush. Should be soft bristle. If the bleeding continues, you should see a dentist. You should replace your brush every 6 months at least.

it shouldnt really matter. gum bleeding usually means that there is too much sugar built up in your gums and you need to brush your teeth more. after a couple weeks of constant, firm brushing the bleeding should go away and your gums should be normal.
