I was arrested back in 1996 or 1997 for a suspended driver's license in Illinois, but the charges were dropped because it was a clerical error. Is this still on my record? I never had any police contact after that or any type of criminal record. How good is Illinois at maintaining these records? Is there an online database that I can check? Thanks!

I've already ordered a copy of my driving record, but nothing appears on it. It just says, "no record." I also ordered my criminal history from the Illinois State Police, but I haven't received it yet.

When I run a records check on someone's drivers license, I will get back a list of all citations that driver has been issued. What yours will say is you were cited for DUS and the charge was dismissed. That is assuming the clerks in the DMV were doing their job. Sometimes the resolution of a ticket doesn't make it to the record. You can call the DMV and ask what is on your record.

just go to the police station and get your copy, it is in the public records. You can get a copy. Your record stays as it is until you have it expunged by a judge, and you have to wait atleast 7 years before you can do that.

Yup old fuzz is right. It will show that you were arrested but that it was dismissed. You can go down to the DMV and ask for a printout of your driving record.

If the charges were dropped, then there is no record, you have to be found guilty to have a record.
