i think its absolutely ridiculous. the school board said they were following the school policies and that school did nothing wrong. what i want to know is if they would give a child detention for hugging parents. thats considered PDA right? a kiss goodbye = 3 days detention? the parents are right to try and fight to get the wording in the policy changed.

I agree. I think what their policy was supposed to mean was no inappropriate touching or affection (like boy and girl making out or grabbing each other). So I think that because of how the policy is written it seems like no one is allowed to hug. Either way, a teacher should not punish them for hugging! I wouldn't let my child serve detention either and this situation would go to court if need be!!!!!

i agree, this was pretty stupid. my understanding was that boys and girls couldn't hug and kiss, i know thats all the teachers corrected in my school. i don't know if any of you have had a teacher that hugs there students cuz thats the kind of teacher they are (and i dont' mean in an bad way) but i have had a couple teachers that have hugged me throughout my school years, what is that considered, should that teacher be punished as well as the student? I think if its inapropriate like making out and touching each other in private places, then thats wrong, but a hug, come on. i hug my friends all the time.

That is the type of environment that parents have permitted to grow in our schools in return for the safety of our kids. In an effort to maintain drug-free schools there are random drug dog sniff-downs and behaviors that are generally associated with those who are trading money and drugs in public are prohibited. This hugging may be something that dealers and buyers do when conducting business in the open, who knows. Become a voice of reason in your school district, run for school board and prevent this from happening in your child's school.
I got called one day because my 11 year old son was laughing at some of his stupid friends who were poking at a girl of the same age. The charge: he was fostering an environment that was conducive to sexual harrassment of a classmate. Needless to say that assistant principal learned a thing or two that day about harrassment....

My kindergartner was told to keep her hands to herself after she hugged another little girl right before class started. There was also a classroom lecture that hugging would be viewed as hostile and grabby and they would get detention if they did it. Anyway, I visit school often, walk my child to class and she still hugs her friends anyway (when I am present) and I just dare them to say anything in front of me.

I'll tell you what really happened... the hug was done against the will of a school official. Then to get even they decided to punish them. It happens all the time... at school, at work, think about.

If i replaced into the childs determine i does not enable him pass, to it, and that i could tell the college that he won't be there, by using fact the reason he have been given the detention is misguided. factor. sparkling. era.

As a parent, I am responsible for my child and one thing I want to teach is to respect their teachers and those at the school. I wouldn't agree with it, and wouldn't be mad at her, but I would ask that she not do it while school is in session, because to me it isn't a big deal, she has plenty of time to hang out with friends outside of school.
