I am not sure what you mean, but I wll add my two cents worth anyway.
I think there are some atheists who do just get off on being contrary and a tad offensive. It is just fun for them; their professed belief has no spiritual weight whatsoever. They rage against God (the machine) because they think they sound cool. Of course there are many atheists who are simply not convinced of God and that is there right as human beings. But I will confess to the sin of getting irritated by the "contrarians" who simply take potshots at God because they think it is cool.
