The Bush administration has been guilty of cover-up about the increase number of suicides and also mental ilnesses among ex-servicemen returning from Iraq.
The American people demand the truth.

A young returned Iraq veteran where I work killed himself this summer. I was shocked. No one at work saw it coming. I thought he really had his act together. I can't help but think that his experience in Iraq were partly to blame.

I don't think that you have any idea of what things happen over there. I am sure that the things that they see happen to their friends and fellow soldiers is immensely traumatic. But are not given the proper time to grieve. How much do you think you could take of being in the situation that those guys are in before you had a break down. I am sure they would take you and drop your sorry but off for free. And see how you like living in the desert with no shower and dirty smelly clothes, dear john letters and friends being killed and tortured every day. U'd never make it my friend. So make sure you say thanks to a Veteran you schmuck

This is about the sadest thing i have heard all day. How could u ask this kinda question on here? I understand that people have that freedom of speech but......DAMN. I have acouple of comments for u:

1. Until u r in their shoes and go through what they do, think how they think and feel what they feel, u have no right what so ever to say anything.
2. Our soldiers and families r aware of the possibility of what can happen due to PTSD, what to do and how to help our loved ones.
3. No one is hiding anything on our LOSSES due to PTSD....it just seems ur one of all these ignorent people that dont pay attention to anything.
4. I agree with SGT. Gare....., if u dont want to stand behind our American Soldiers and their families then u need to go stand in front of them.
5. If u want to use the American Freedoms that we all have in this hurtful way, then u need to sign ur name on the dotted line so u can say u fought for ur right to say this ****.

It is a damn shame that people like u can use the American Freedoms that we have and use them to make unsupportive and hurtful comments. They dont only affect and hurt the feelings of of our American Soliders that fight for OUR freedoms but it also hurts the families. Especially the currently deployed and all of our soldiers that have had problems with PTSD due to their job.
My husband is currently deployed in IRAQ and we know that it is possiable for him to come home with PTSD. I also have had family members and friends come home with this problem. It is not easy for them to go throug this problem but most have the support that they need to get through it with no problems. It upsets me that any human being with a heart could say this.
Now i think u need to go do some more research......maybe go to a vetrens hospital and talk to some of our men and women that are in there for this reason. U could also say "Thank You" to all of them for being able to use ur freedoms. If this doesnt work.....just go sign up!!!!

P.S. To all fellow families and to all of our soldiers that have read this....there are Americans that CARE!!!!! I am also sorry there are people out in this country that are like this!!!!

Another rant with no evidence to back it up.

Who knows what the future will lead to with possible stress related suicides and even if they can be attributable to Iraq service.

I see Afghanistan service doesn't even rate mention in your question / rant.

Might as well look into spousal suicide as well. In my church we had one male suicide due to war and one wife suicide, but the wife who killed herself was also due to the mental illness that comes when you a women gets that depression after a women has a child. I am sure there are suicides in Iraq as well.

Yes, there will be increased suicides and PTSD from Iraqi war veterans. This has been studied and one of the largest contributors to both of these are anti-war protests and anti-troop sentiments in the American population.

Our Soldiers are better trained and prepared today than they ever have been for what they have to do and what they see in Iraq and Afghanistan. What no one can prepare them for is the ingratitude of their fellow citizens. I thought I was prepared for that and told my Viet Nam era colleagues that I was. I was wrong. It is much easier to deal with an enemy that straigtforward hates you than a fellow citizen that stabs you in the back while telling you that (s)he is doing it for your own good.

Wanna prevent PTSD, tell your veterans "Thank You", buy 'em a beer and tell your fellow citizens to stop trying to stab them in the back with war protests and false allegations against our brothers.

No one is hiding anything regarding this matter. Those of us here in Iraq know of this issue and it is addressed in theater.

It sounds like the only ignorant person on the subject is YOU. But that isn't too surprising....is it?

Probably the same percentage as civilians in america. It is just amplified because we are a smaller portion of the total population, and obviously the whole iraq/afghanistan conflicts, but the same as always. We are people, everyday problems as well as the military ones, but please stop trying to use us as political ammo, its getting annoying.
